Seriously why is circumcision still done today

Thread Closed

This is just one of those personal subjects for which there will never be a definitive answer.

Many of us who were circumcised as babies are absolutely, perfectly happy being that.

There are those who resent their parents for making the decision to circumcise without consulting them. This is wasted resentment. Others who are not circumcised would like to be for whatever reasons. Some think the hood is terrific, and that is terrific for them.

It is still done today because parents have the option to do it or not. Apparently a lot of parents in the US feel it is appropriate for their personal reasons, whatever they are.

Conduct this survey in a country where circumcision is rare, and see what the result is. I’ll bet you that the average woman from the UK, France, or Germany would view a circumcised penis as mutillated.

It’s difficult to say the women’s preference of those countries since most of them are somehow used to see circumcised penises. I don’t think any French woman will freak out watching a cut American penis for being mutilated.

Here is the abstract of a study on circumcision preference in Kenya where majority of men are uncircumcised.

Okay, I’ll get right on that.

Lol.

If I had my choice which to be, I’d still opt for being circumcised. :p In my opinion it looks much better, and most girls seem to think so (and yes, I’ve had girlfriend from countries where it’s not the norm). It seems like it’s generally cleaner and less smelly as well. As far as being desensitized goes, I don’t have any problem with that. I can get off in 5 mins or go for an hour if I want to. I’ve never heard much about circumcised guy’s skin being too tight, but I have seen that uncircumcised guys sometimes can’t even retract their foreskin. I guess it comes down to personal preference though. Everyone likes something different.

You can’t choose your parents, but I really wish you would stop worrying about my child’s penis :)

I have once heard that circumcised men in general have a higher desire for anal sex that could be explained by the reduced number and sensitivity of nerves.

I agree.

LOL?

Really?

That one’s got you laughing out loud, eh?

Help me understand. What is so laughing-out-loud funny about a poster asking others not to circumcise their children?

The same with you, Penflex. Is this really so flat-out funny that you’re laughing out loud about it?

For Lampwick, becoming hung like a donkey was the result of a total commitment.

I really don’t see any need for an unnecessary SURGERY on a newborn child. Think about it, how developed is a new born baby’s immune system, there really is no reason why any newborn should be having any type of unnecessary cosmetic surgery. There are plenty of documented stories out there about boys who have been mutilated by the hands of surgeons that removed too much skin, and basically left the poor souls with a micro penis.

I would never let any son of mine be circumcised at birth.

I’ve read about babies that have died because they developed an infection as a result of the surgery and were not able to fight it off, also about boys who had about their whole penis’s removed, or even boys whose surgery went so wrong, their parent’s were convinced by the doctors to then administer a sex change.

No thanks.

People come from different backgrounds, but personally I wouldn’t consent to the genitals of my newborn being mutilated shortly after birth.

I’d allow my son or daughter the ability to make their own choice later in life.

I’m perfectly happy with my cut dick, but I’d want my son to choose for himself when he was an appropriate age. Same as any other significant body modification.

As to why circumcision is done to babies today, probably mainly for arbitrary aesthetic preferences/traditions. It’s true that circumcision cuts down on the risk of viral infection through unprotected intercourse, but I don’t think that’s what parents have in mind when they choose it, since few even know of that research (and would probably hope their sons use condoms anyway).

I was circumcised at the age of 13. The surgeon cut my foreskin too much. I could not move for 2 months for infection and suffering. Anyway, if I had given chance to pick the option, I would have gone for circumcision for aesthetic reason only.

How common is it in the US?

Here in Sweden, it is almost unheard of. I don’t know anyone who has done it, nor have I ever seen anyone ever in any kind of gym class or public showers who has done it. Seems quite poor to force it onto a kid, better let him choose for himself instead, as undoing it isn’t viable.

When I was in highschool almost every person in the locker room was circumcised. The only exceptions were a few black guys I knew, and a few mexicans who’s parents were old school. Pretty much a white American standard, I believe.

Sorry about the chatspeak, Lampwick. I’m pretty sure it’s the first time I’ve ever used it here; it was just a quick impulse as the post really did have me laughing out loud. I don’t really feel like I need to explain my sense of humor or what I find funny though. I guess my poor response was due to me seeing that post as a joke.
