Beyond a doubt that WOULD be the most accurate way. But also the most costly method. Possibly connecting with Urologists as you said and asking if they would be interested in this study would be a good start.
If you did TP only I would recommend ONLY using people who post solid BPEL BPFL and BPSL photos with measurements on those photos and account for a +/- 3-5cm margin or error for recording. That way regardless of user error the general measurement CHANGES as accurate.
Polls would require photo evidence. So people like myself who have no starting photo but have current photos would not count.
Or you can only count our first measurement with photographic evidence and our last measurement with photographic evidence as a true change.
If you could find Urologists willing to partake in this study free of charge you could formulate a questionnaire for men to find out what PE if any they do and have their dr do an exam at their checkups and then create a FB group advertising its existence where they can fill out their form, print it out, and take it to their Dr or Urologist anywhere.
Just some thoughts. Haha this is right up my alley my guy. I love creating research studies.
