Ehhh… why the sudden snappiness? I kinda let you down, did’nt I? I know you’re interested with the discussion andro but its complicated really… Because… well, its just that the whole black guys being hung which is true only that theyre better showers but pretty equal in erect size as compared to whites. And asians being hopelessly small, is blown out of proportions kinda made me curious to see what could be the reason behind it. Frankly I, like most members, prefer the idea of every race being equally endowed. Makes things very even, no one is better and no one is worser. So I’m placing my opinion at the table yet deep inside I wish I was wrong and that I don’t want to be right. You get the picture? My attempt was a mere what could be the reason behind the ethnic-size correlation.

Yes, we’re all human beings, but there are differences. For example, blacks are more prone to high blood pressure than whites. Furthermore, sickle cell anemia may plague black folks exclusively. And, osteoporosis tends to mostly affect whites & asians, than it does blacks.

Beyond race, there are even ethnic differences in whites. For example, a former mayor of Pittsburgh died of a rare genetic condition known as amyloidosis. People from the Mediterranean seem most susceptible to this (Caligiuri was an Italian American).

The same is true about autism. Some researchers have noted a prevelance amongst Mediterranean peoples that may be disproportionate to the general population (Sly Stallone & Dan Marino, who both have autistic kids, have done a lot for helping autism research).

Or what about Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) - a hereditary inflammatory disorder that affects groups of patients originating from around the Mediterranean Sea (hence its name). It is prominently present in the Armenian people (up to 1 in 7 affected), Sephardi Jews (and, to a much lesser extent, Ashkenazi Jews), people from Turkey, and the Arab countries. (from a Wiki).

So, you can’t issue a blanket statement that all folks along the rainbow spectrum are one & the same. Furthermore, chimpanzees only differ from us genetically by a few measly percent. If you were ill would you want a veterinarian to treat you?

And, finally, “…the amount of outrage that caused within the medical community.” means absolutely nothing, in terms of science. The same outrage greeted the authors of The Bell Curve, a book which purported to present scientific evidence showing causality between race & intelligence. (whether or not the book did so, all of the condemnations by the book’s critics were emotional & employed circuitous reasoning. I’m not sure if the book was ever scientifically refuted - if not, perhaps because the critics were too wound-up to think clearly).

That is precisely the point: that idea is “preferred,” not proven.

That book is ridiculous. My take on that is basically there is cultural, social, political and economic reasons why african americans fair lesser in IQ tests. It has alot to do with the mindset, if a brotha ever made it out the hood and got past hip-hop culture, drugs and basketball to get a place in a university to get a degree. When he comes back home the other folks of the black community will from upon him. That this nigga turned “too-white”. The intelligent, outspoken and ambitious african-american leaves the hood to integrate into the white community leaving the well to do ones behind which is what gets sieved to make the bulk of the mainstream black community. Its a vicious brain drain.

The Bell Curve is book that is esentially meant to say in a genteel way that whites are superior. Hope I answered you WaxN. ;)

You oversimplify. While a poor diet can contribute to hypertension, researchers have found genetic links - so, it’s not “possibly” hereditary.

Recklessly bold? Perhaps if you’re unable to grasp the ramifications - so I’ll spell it out for you: if only a few measly percent can result in such enormous variation, how can you not grasp that smaller variations are possible within the human genome?

(1) Unlike you, I did not read the book; therefore, I no personal opinion on its contents - I only followed the controversy it generated.

(2) Your “take” on it is exactly the PC establishment take. So, like them, you offer nothing of substance to the argument, but only parrot their emotionalism.

(3) Your notion that the educated black somehow “disappears from the scene,” leaving only the poor uneducated ones in the ghetto to provide the fodder for the book is rather ludicrous. Are you suggesting that the authors only studied blacks in the ghetto?
