Derma Rolling

I know this is way off topic, but I have some mild acne scars on my neck and temples and I was considering trying out a Derma Roller to try to make them less visible. Has anyone here ever tried this, and if so any success?

This was mentioned in another thread recently, sorry I can’t recall where it is. The guy posted pictures of the dermaroller he was using and explained his results too.

That would be me. :)

Getting rid of stretch marks

My conclusion is that it can fix the stretch marks to some extent, but not completely. I’ve been using it on its own, maybe I should’ve used it in combination with some creme like Retin-A.

I plan on using a dermaroller myself to get rid of body stretchmarks… some might be impossible to remove since I was born with them, I think it’s worth a try though.

If you want to learn a lot about dermarollers, use skincaretalk.com — that forum seems like an excellent resource.

Try this google search “site:skincaretalk.com dermaroller”, you’ll get a lot of interesting results:

Upto7’s thread is very helpful too—

I think the key is with body stretchmarks you need long needles to really trigger your body’s natural collagen repair.

Things like: Retin A, and DIY Vit C Serum might help as well. I was under the impression that some people use a dermaroller then follow it up with a serum (like DIY Vit C serum) to boost the body’s natural healing capacity, and since the needles have already penetrated deep into the epidermis, your body will more readily absorb that.

Retin A probably shouldn’t be used at the same time as dermarolling. However, it can help reverse aging effects to a small extent by naturally exfoliating your skin, whatever (I’m not a skin care expert, I’m just trying to pass on what I figured out).

Maybe someone else that knows a lot more than me on this subject will comment, but I’m not sure if we will have someone like that on this forum… The best thing to do would be to go ask on a forum like skincaretalk.com…

Ya I tried those sites out but they were so complex. I just want a basic step by step manual of what to use and how to do it and how often I should do it. I can see this thing working decently well because it is the same principle as the expensive lasers that are used to treat skin problems.

I don’t think you’ll get very good results if you don’t research it.

Most important thing with Derma rolling is not to overdo it. That means you don’t roll more often than once a month!
This is at least the approach for “heavy rolling” meaning really pressing those needles in the skin.
The misleading thing is that if you roll more often in the beginning things SEEM to get better - but instead of promoting new skin growth you just build up scar tissue.

As mentioned earlier Retin-A cream and the use of a Vit-C cream is also adviced.

I did read through the skincaretalk forum and that is the quintessence.

They have a coupon there to get the roller a bit cheaper btw.

Everywhere I read it’s saying FOR PROFESSIONAL USE. Can you do it by yourself at home? I got interested on it, but it feels.. Hm, unsafe.

So, gentle giant man, can you tell me all the creams/ointments I need to use for this and when to use them as in which to use before, after, and maybe even during. I am ready to get my roll on.

I purchased a derma roller a few months back after reading UpTo7’s thread and I will tell you it has worked wonders for me. It doesn’t erase your stretchmarks or scars completely but it drastically fades them. I have been using it 3 times a week for 4 and a half months and on my days off I apply scar solution to my marks. Before I started doing this, I had deep purple stretchmarks. Now my stretchmarks are a very light whitish/pink, almost flesh colored but still noticeable and they aren’t deep anymore. They can barely be noticed unless I’m in direct light so I definitely recommend derma rolling. I purchased one from ebay for only $6.00.

I did some research. For facial use I don’t think you should use needles more than 1mm depth.

I just bought a cheap dermaroller off ebay for about $8.30 (including shipping). I got 1.5mm needle depth which is supposedly enough to deal with stretchmarks. I read 2x times per week is enough, but do you guys disagree? (alexinsc2009-you used it 3x per week) . Also what exactly is the scar solution you use? I have read do it yourself vitamin C serum is good to use after derma-rolling…

Upto7: do you have any feedback on this?

Ya I am def. getting the 1.5 mm and I am going to use LED lights as well. Pretty groundbreaking shit if you ask me.

I read about the LED lights… maybe I’ll try that at some point. I think I’ll try dermarolling + retin A + vitamin C spray (there’s another derma-rolling thread where that’s mentioned). If I don’t get results, I guess that’s yet another option (the LED lights).

Sorry it has taken me awhile to reply to this post. I’ve been out of town. I myself have been using a 1mm roller and the scar solution I use is, Mederma scar treatment, not the Mederma stretch mark treatment. My marks are on my underarms and mostly my waistline. I use the roller on Monday and Tuesday, take a day off and roll again on Thursday then I take the rest of the week off and apply the scar solution until Sunday. I have to add that my stretchmarks were relatively new when I started doing this so that could be a reason rolling has worked so well for me.

My dermarollers came in the mail today… it took eternity to get them.

My only problem now is I don’t have vitamin C serum or scar recovery cream, so I’m delaying the use of dermarollers until I figure out what to do…
