Girth vs length cycle optimizing

Does anyone have an opinion on working toward girth in conjunction with working towards length? What I’m getting at is, could there be an optimal cycle between focusing on girth before switching to length exercises and vice-versa, like 1 month cycles?

Like if you hit a length plateau, so you switch to mainly girth exercises for a month and then when you go back to length exercises, you break through the plateau you were hitting?

Am I making any sense?

I have not hit a plateau, but I think it is important to work on both so I have added a girth intensive day to my routine. I work length 4 days out of the week, 1 day girth intensive, and 2 days off.


Started: 6.75" BPEL, 8" (20 cm) BPFSL (1/2015) x 5" (12.5 cm) EG; Current (7/2017): 8" (20 cm) BPEL, 8.2" (20.5 cm) BPFSL x 5.8" (14.5 cm) EG; Gains (7/2017): 1.25" (3.125 cm) EL, 0.2" (0.5 cm) BPFSL x 0.8" (2 cm) EG

Short-term goal: 8.25 (20.625 cm) BPEL, 8.3" (20.75 cm) BPFSL x 6" (15 cm) EG; Long-term goal: 9" (22.5 cm) BPEL x 6" EG

It’s one way of doing things, although I’d suggest 3 month cycles instead of 1 month. I only work length at the moment but it’s not for your reason above but because I have all the girth I need until I reach my length goal and then I will switch. I have noticed with myself that I gain more length quickly if I don’t work girth at the same time. I haven’t tested it yet but I’d guess that it’s easier to gain girth if you aren’t focussing on length as well. I think it’s hard to try and grow in two directions at the same time (for me anyway).

It’s possible to do but it slows down the gains in one or both directions. The bonus from doing this approach is you are only getting conditioned from one form of exercise (one direction of growing). So instead of a decon break, you can focus on growing in the other direction. I read a few months ago a few people suggesting this and they had seemed to have good success with it. So for example jelq and clamp for 3 months, while deconning your longways tunica fibres. And then the next 3 months stretch the longways tunica fibres and decon the sideways girth ones. I can’t say for sure if it works or not but it could be worth trying.

My decision to focus on one is because I want to look longer not thicker. But put it this way, once I do start working girth, I don’t expect many problems because it will be many many months since I last worked girth.

IMO I think it could be good for PE but I don’t know as I haven’t tried it. It makes sense to me to as so many people advocate deconditioning when you hit a plateau. I think if you’re concentrating on one particular trait (length or girth) then switching on your plateau could be considered a deconditioning break.

But I don’t know. Maybe In the future I’ll give it a go.

Great responses guys! Thanks a lot! CubanB, you have some really impressive length gain there! My starting BPEL is the same as yours was, so I’m hopeful for your kind of results. Now, I just need to read up on:

As a side note, I have implemented an insulin spike in my routine. Since I don’t get much time to PE (about 30 minutes a day), I want to get every possible benefit from it. Basically, I use powdered Gatorade. I double dose the powder into a little less water. It is pretty thick, and not for everyone, but I can feel when the spike happens. Before the spike, I jelq and drink. During the spike, I do three reps of 5 minute balloons (no clamp yet), followed by light stretching. I really am a believer in the light stretching. Today, the flaccid guy is firm to the touch, and no turtles. I’ll do light stretches every trip to the bathroom and otherwise take the day off.

Insulin spiking isn’t talked about by anyone, and it borders on the “supplement” category that I know everyone hates. But being a body builder, I know how effective it can be to stressed tissue, so I’m giving it a shot. I’ll be the guinea pig. If anyone is thinking of doing it, though, you have to be careful, especially if you are at risk for diabetes. Your body can freak out from the overload of dextrose.
