L-arginine source

L-arginine source

Hey, I looked for a bit on the forums, but I couldn’t find a definitive answer. I have l-arginine supplements I’ve been taking and they’re helpful but unfortunately for a poor college student they’re also relatively expensive. I was looking up l-arginine content in food sources to see if there were alternatives and found that regular peanuts contain roughly 3.08 grams of l-arginine per 100 grams of peanuts. Now, 100 grams of peanuts isn’t that much, but 3.08 grams of l-arginine is only slightly less than I was taking per day and in the form of peanuts, it’s significantly less expensive. Is this an acceptable way to get my l-arginine content? Is there something about taking it in pill form that makes it easier for my body to use, and will eating a decent amount of peanuts actually work for the same purposes? Thanks in advance,

Joe

“Dietary Sources

Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid, meaning most of the time it can be manufactured by the human body, and does not need to be obtained directly through the diet. The biosynthetic pathway however does not produce sufficient arginine, and some must still be consumed through diet. Individuals who have poor nutrition or certain physical conditions may be advised to increase their intake of foods containing arginine. Arginine is found in a wide variety of foods, including[2]:

* Animal sources: dairy products (e.g. Cottage cheese, ricotta, milk, yogurt, whey protein drinks), beef, pork (e.g. Bacon, ham), poultry (e.g. Chicken and turkey light meat), wild game (e.g. Pheasant, quail), seafood (e.g. Halibut, lobster, salmon, shrimp, snails, tuna in water)
* Vegetable sources: wheat germ and flour, buckwheat, granola, oatmeal, nuts (coconut, pecans, cashews, walnuts, almonds, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, pinenuts, peanuts), seeds (pumpkin, sesame, sunflower), chick peas, cooked soybeans.”

Time Spent researching: 30 seconds.

Based on my knowledge and a quick Google search it looks to be accurate too, which is not absolutely always the case with Wikipedia. I do believe that peanuts are the food with the highest concentration of L-arginine, but you can always include these others into your diet as well.

I realize, I got the fact that peanuts were the highest source from google, my only question was as to whether or not it broke down as easy as pure arginine in capsules. I’ll go ahead and check out the nitric oxide supplement though, thanks guys

Ah, I misunderstood the question. Check out the Supplements forum. Lots of discussion there on L-Argenine. In general, my rule of thumb is to look at the individual manufacturers. It’s been my personal experience that any supplement taken from a natural food source is much easier for the body to metabolize than synthetics. There are multiple studies on vitamins around this very fact.

It’s in this way that you “get what you pay for”. You may be better off buying the peanuts than going with a cheap(er) brand supplement.

Yup. It’s actually the only ingredient. I take it. Obviosuly not top notch quality for 10$ a bottle, but it gets the job done.

Peanuts, Peanut Butter, Almonds, Sunflower Seeds etc…

Found everywhere.

There is a site I used to search for this stuff: Nutrition Data

Within that site is a search that allows you to search for foods with the highest concentrations of whatever it is you desire. So of course, I searched for the Foods Highest In Arginine

I much prefer taking whole foods to XYZ supplements and in my humble opinion the body absorbs it better.

Size is little more than a controllable perception without an accurate means of measurement.

I use AAKG (L-Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate) powder from vitacost.com It is 500g for 24.99. I take 3 to 6g a day. Works out to be pretty cheap.

the cheapest i found is sold from a shop HOLLAND & barret and it cost 1.50£for 50 capsules.is it going to be effective??????

L Arginine

Cardio Cocktail is typically made out of L Arginine, though it is commonly blended with other herbal supplement products such as EDTA or Omega 3,6, and 9 Essential Fatty Acid. L-Arginine, an essential amino acid, is the major component for vascular protection. L-arginine is pure 100% free form arginine and is the precursor for endotheiium-derived nitric oxide (EDNO), which prevents a heart attact.
