Suspensory ligaments' effect on measurement

I was dismayed a couple of days ago when I measured BPEL. A couple of years ago BPEL was around 6 to 6.5 inches. I was hoping to reach 7 inches. I thought I had reached 6.5 inches a few months ago after about 18 months. I measured a couple of days ago hoping to see a little progress, but it was only 6.25 inches - smaller rather than larger.

It seems to me that the suspensory ligaments must be sometimes tight and sometimes loose and that affects the measurement.

I am getting pretty discouraged to have worked on this for 2 years and have no gain. It would be nice if I could get consistent measurements.

Some guys have pronounced suspensory ligaments which makes measuring dead center top of penis impractical. In those cases we suggest sliding the ruler as little as possible but enough to find a point where you can get an accurate measurement.


Initial: 7” BPEL; 6” NBPEL; 5.25” - 5.5” MEG

Current: 7-7/8” BPEL; 7-3/8” NBPEL; 8.5” BPFSL; 6.5” MEG; 6”x5” Flaccid.

Goal: Improved/consistent EQ while managing ED. Secondary: maintain current stats.

I have that problem, and it’s even worse when I’ve been hanging for a while. That’s why I measure along the side, on the centerline of my shaft, with the ruler perpendicular to the skin, solidly on my pubic bone.

It’s probably not exactly the same reading as the "correct" along-the-top measurement, but it’s doable and repeatable.

Thanks, I’m going to try measuring along the side. I can definitely feel a bone on the side more easily.

It also occurred to me that belly fat could be an issue as I gain and lose weight. I may have gained a little weight, and it wouldn’t take much to affect the measurement.

I like to measure laying down, I get another 0.5 inch in length. Puts me up to 8.25 inches bpsfl

Interesting that it would make so much difference laying down.

The tilt of the pelvic girdle can change the measurement substantially.

The important part is that whatever method you use is repeatable. If you measure every day for a week, you’ll see a spread of dimensions. Some is EQ, some is measurement variation. That spread is your margin of error. Gains (or losses…) need to be larger than that before they’re significant.

I guess I will give that a try. "A watched pot never boils", so I have been only measuring every month or two for that reason. I should measure daily for a week and then wait a month or two before doing that again.

Actually, I thought I had a pretty consistent way to track improvement by measuring from the flange of my pump cylinder near the end of a pumping session and then subtracting 1.25 inches to estimate BPEL. I wanted to sanity-check that method by directly measuring BPEL, but it is trickier.

Fully-erected size depends on erection level - the amount of blood retained in the penis - and "tugback." There’s probably a fancy medical term for that. Tugback is when your internal musculature tries to pull your shaft back toward your abdomen. Some guys never notice, but you can hold a stretch for a few minutes and try some Kegels, which will usually affect tugback. Tugback also commonly manifests when using an extender; that’s why the extender will loosen up shortly after being installed.

So, EQ affects length and girth, and tugback affects length. My measurements can vary half an inch on length *or* girth depending on how my dick is responding that day. (I have slight to moderate ED) If I use a tight cock ring and some edging first, my measurement-to-measurement variation drops from 1/2" to 1/8" or less. Yes, it’s bigger than an unassisted erection, but I’m not concerned about the exact number on the ruler, just the difference between the current measurement and the last one.

If you want a number that more closely represents your "true" size, measuring with an unassisted erection over successive days and then averaging the readings will give you a better number.
