Question about the AFB

Unfortunately I can’t afford a Bib hanger so I have been using
an AFB hanger (slightly modified to make it more comfortable).
I am using 5 pounds with it right now. Anyone that has used the
AFB, I would appreciate your reply, I would like to know how much
weight it will allow and still have comfort?
Also, did it allow more weight in different positions?

I cant remember the maximum weight I could use with it, but I could hang 7.5kg, which is over 15 pounds for 20mins. I wasnt very comfortable, but it was the best hanger I had used up to then. The problem was pain in the head, nomatter how I attached it I could not stop it from sliding to the head (at high weights).
How is it working for you? How long are your sets? How comfortable is it?

Its the ligs and tunica that will decide how much weight you can handle in any position, depending on how strong they are these points. I dont really think that the hanger will affect this much, there’s not much adjusting you can do with it.

Thanks for your reply, i was really curious on amount of weight,
so I knew how long I could use it for before having to upgrade.
I tried the afb and couldn’t get it not to hurt at 5 pounds.
So i modified it to my likings. Now its all good. I started 2 weeks ago, was doing 3 sets of 20 minutes, weekends off. Now for
the next 2-3 weeks I’ll only have time for 1 set of 20 minutes a day.
The reason I asked about different positions was because you get different pulls in each, I know the ligs and tunica are deciding factor. I can barely hang any weight due to slippage in the straight out position. Sorry I should have clarified that question a little more.

I didnt have any problems with slippage at that weight, are you able to stop the slippage (straight out) with your modifications?

its an awkward hanger to use but you should be able to hang weights with which you can gain with without problems. The more you use it the better you get, just remember that there is always something you can do to make hanging more comfortable, so if you start getting problems its time to try a few new ideas, like wrapping, point of attatchment etc.

Similar to the modification I made to it, I used cable ties instead of a hinge, and I used a metal mending plate which was quite wide so it gripped a lot of the shaft (it was probably about 2 inches wide). I just bent it round a pole, whacked it with a hammer and generally took my frustration out on it to make a head well on both sides. Wood would probably be a better material though.

Thats a great drawing, and it looks like a great hanger.
