swinging while hanging?

Wow, that’s pretty time consuming. What about hanging mixed with an ADS?

I guess it boils down to how bad you want it. Some guys take rest days and see nothing wrong with it. I do here and there and pay for it later. An ADS will keep it extended, but won’t really give necessary stress to force gains. My opinion, of course.

Serious starting point: Nov. 2, 2009/BPEL 5.75 x 4.75 inches.

Current BPEL 7 1/2 x 5.5 inches.

Goal: BPEL 8 x 6 inches. Hell, if I hit 8, I'm going for 9!

I guess I’m slightly confused. Seems to me if you’re trying to avoid rest/healing, you need to constantly hang, as the moment you stop your body starts to repair. I’m certainly no expert, nor am I questioning you, just looking for clarification.

You’re right - the body does immediately begin to repair/heal itself. It’s one of the awesome wonders God created. What I’m saying is that in a 24 hour period, your body has not had a chance to heal itself completely from your previous days work. Picture a cut on your body. What happens if you cover it with a bandage? It immediately begins to scab up and heal. Now imagine if you were to continually add stress to that cut before it had a chance to heal up? It wouldn’t heal. The same thing happens when we hang: micro tears are formed and before they have a chance to heal up stronger, we hang which pulls out the healing/adhesions that have formed. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks, that does make sense. Now, off to weekend hanging!

Also, what about “high intensity” ADS? Isn’t that close to the same thing?

I’m not familiar with high intensity ADS. If you can only hang one set over the weekend, do it. If you absolutely can’t hang, at least do some manual stretching to pull out the adhesions.

I’ve almost always swung while I’ve hung (that sounds funny). Can’t say if my gains would have been any different without swinging, but most all my gain lengths have come from hanging so I’ve figured it’s worked, at least as well as not hanging anyway.

I’m pretty much always swinging. I.e., I wear the hanger while walking around, doing chores, etc. Want more stress? Go down the stairs quickly with a weight on :-)

How much weight do you use and what are your stats?

Swinging helps greatly in gains. As you swing, it helps to evenly distribute the weight and lengthen the ligs. Side to side swinging stresses all of the lig bundles, but especially hits the lateral suspensory ligs on each side.

I usually just bounce while standing.

5lbs most of the time and for walking around. If I’m warmed up and sitting for a while, I’ll go up to 10lbs, then back to 5 to maintain the stretch.

Are you gaining anything or are you just cementing your gains right now?
