time vs. intensity?

time vs. intensity?

Hi all:

Just a quick question from a beginner. Is it better to hang for as long as possible (25 min. or so) with around 12 lbs. of weight, or to hang for shorter times (5 - 10 min. or so) at a higher weight (20 lbs.)? Or is a combination of both techniques the best? Thanks for your help!

Welcome Hopeful2!

Good question - there has been much discussion about it and we don’t know the answer for sure. Fatigue seems to be the key so read those threads that Thunder has linked.

It seems as long as you achieve fatigue, it doesn’t really matter how you get there - short and heavy or lighter and longer - both will work. Perhaps the optimum is to start the set heavier and progressively decrease the weight as the tissue tires.

Remember, and this is very important, start with low weights first until you have mastered the technical aspects of hanging and wrapping, then gradually move up in weight. Be aware that you can injure yourself by going too hard too quickly and that will set you back.

What sort of hanger are you using?

Keep us posted!
