Wad’s Take on the Captain’s Hanger

Supplies:
· Industrial-Strength Velcro
· Nylon Strap (had 2 yds cut)
· Cable Clamps
· Grippers (“SoftTouch” by Waxman)
· “S” hook

Tools Needed:
· Scissors
· Ruler

Sources:
· Ace Hardware (for the “S” hook)
· Wal-Mart (everything else)

Costs:
· $15.30 (including tax)

Construction Notes:
· Extremely easy to assemble
· Captain’s instructions excellent, highly detailed ( - The Captn’s Wench: PE Device)

Initial Impressions:
· Easy to adjust for personal size (length & girth) – depends soley upon the placing of the Grippers within the Velcro band, as well as trimming the Velcro band if need be.
· Quick & easy to put on and remove
· Not much of a “learning curve” required (although it helps if you are familiar with the wrap material & wrap method you are most comfortable with)

Trial Run (Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 – wee hours o’ the marn):
· 1st set: 5 lbs x 12 minutes (then 10 minute rest)
· 2nd set: 7.5 lbs x 14 minutes (then 12 minute rest)
· 3rd set: 10 lbs x 12 minutes

3 sets, 38 minutes – very comfortable (weight range: 5-10 lbs)

Post-Hanging Impressions:
· I should’ve shaved better
· A skin lotion might also help
· Should’ve kept heat applied while hanging – although I was simply conducting a few trial runs.
· At times, I practically forgot that I was hanging weights – it was that comfortable.
· Got a nice deep stretch in ligs (I was testing the hanger soley BTC).
· I enjoy multi-tasking, so hands-free PE is for me; I only wish I had more privacy time to pursue hanging hours per day….in the near future, perhaps.

Captain, I give you a “10” on this one!

Yes I test drove my Captain today for 15min with 5 lbs. I noticed temprary flacid gains, +.25 in both length and girth, But im sure it will be Normal in the morning. Did you notice the same thing?

Starting stats: 7.5 BPEL X 5.2 Current stats: 8.0 BPEL X 5.31 Goal stats: 9 X 6

I have been using the Captain’s hanger since early January, and have noticed VERY respectable gains with it, in both length and girth. As a newbies first hanger, I found it very easy to use (after the initial wrapping).

I am up to 14lbs for an hour a day on it now in a straight out stretch, but I am not sure if I can go over 16lbs with it.

It has really done wonders for my girth, and I have had to adjust the grippers a few times already.

This thing is awesome, and for $15 you can’t do any better.

Although for substantial weights, I might need a different hanger.

pahncrd,

I have good news for you. I just tried 18.7 lbs. with the CCH3.
Very Comfortable.

Oh looky here! The CCH3.

And for under $9, well,…you decide.

Starting: 5 BPEL x 4.5 EG on 4/19/03

Latest: 6 BPEL x 5 EG on 2/17/04

Goal: 7 BPEL x 6 EG

It looks pretty scary!

But once I hit the wall on the Captain’s Hanger, I will deffinately give it a try before jumping into a Bib hanger.

Believe it or not, I can’t find cable clamps anywhere.

And there’s no way in hell I’m tie-wrapping.

I found it in the automotive section at walmart.

pahncrd,

I have even better news for you. There are plenty of people hanging 20lbs plus with their Wench.

You decide.

Hey Insane_Man, if you have a Totem, that where I got mine…….

Guys, I’ve sometimes had some slippage with the cable clamps. It depends on getting the wrap just right & any degree of inflation within my unit. So, I went to Wal-Mart today and bought a pack of “Large Hose Clamps” by Victor, V39. It contains 4 clamps - 2 of which are huge. You adjust the screws with a regular flat-head screwdriver….and they were like $3 per pack. I get a much more precise tightening with these, and I can retighten after the set begins. And they go on & off fairly quickly.

I think I might have to invest in some theraband. I think I might also need a bigger cable clamp, I am having trouble with this clamp cutting off blood supply at higher weights.

I’ll figure it out. I really, really, really like the wench though.

Wad,
I too have used these clamps. You might want to finess the circular shape of the clamp into a more oval shape and attach it to your wench with the “thinner” sides placed against the grippers. I was surprised to find that the hose clamp will not only retain this shape, it will tighten and loosen just as effectively.
Another thing I did was use a small coin - use a penny, nickle, or dime, whatever best fits - to work the clamp in place of a sharp screwdriver. Keep that thing away from your boy.
I was able to permanently fix a penny into the slot by using a cementing compound called “Liquid Steel”. Krazy Glue held for a while, but nothing like this “Steel” stuff.

I admit that I liked the reshaped hose clamp a lot - it allows for very subtle tightening and as you noted you can tighten after the weight is applied. And for whatever reason I noted near perfect glans coloration when using these clamps.
What I didn’t like is that it was much slower to put on and taken off than the CableClamp. But I do many sets over the course of a day, so this might not be an issue for someone with a lighter routine.
In the end I simply took a little time to perfect my wrap/cableclamp combination and have gone back to that set up.

Pahncrd,
Consider that if you have had trouble free hangs so far with your clamp/wrap combination these things might not be the culprit. When I began hanging, and whenever I have jumped up in weight I have dealt with compromised circulation to the glans. A good case can be made that veins and capillaries responsible for blood supply are suddenly meeting with new limitations as you apply new stress to them; they are in effect thinning out to a point they are not accustomed to, and blood flow is being slowed or even stopped.
These and other internal structures have to adapt to big weight, if this were not the case we would all be able to jump to 20lbs on our first day of hanging.
Sometimes I have found it possible to deal with this over the course of a few days by shaving off some of the set time at higher weights, and gradually moving back up to 20 minutes. As a conditioning technique it seems to be a harmless way to adapt.
Just a thought. But you are right in considering your wrap/clamp combination as a route to addressing this. It can’t hurt to explore this.

Congrats on the gains.

I dunno, I went to just about every related store in town and nobody seemed to know what the fuck I was talking about. One guy asked if I could just use a tie wrap and I said “I guess….” and walked out of the store in an uncomfortable fashion.

Did you try an auto parts store? Even Canadian cars should have radiators. :)
