Anti Aging programs
It would be interesting to know more about this. What does it involve?
Hello Memento, An anti aging program usually includes supplementation with Human Growth Hormone (HGH), It also includes vitamins, minerals, adrenal hormones, thyroid hormones (as necessary) and it is monitored with blood tests every quarter. The intent is to supply sufficient nutrition, and to bring as many of the hormones that decline with age,, back up to where they would be if the person was 30 years old. The basis of anti aging medicine started back in the 80’s when there were 5 theories about what caused aging. One of them was the hormonal theory, which stated that we age due to hormonal decline over the years. Another theory was the Telomere theory that states that aging is caused by the decline in our telomeres, which are the end caps of our DNA chains. When we run out of telomeres, we can no longer make the protein that the DNA codes for. The enzyme Telomerase works to repair the telomeres (very similar to what happens with cancer) and prevents the aging caused by the destruction of our DNA. At the moment,I forgot the other three chains but from these theories, anti aging medicine was born.
The hormonal theory has not proved valuable for extending life, as in living longer, but it has dramatically improved the quality of life in just about everyone that has participated. The Telomerase theory has the potential to extend life a very long time indeed, but so far, science has not come up with a home run in that department. There is one product that is said to rebuild telomerase, and the product is called TA-65. The jury is still out on the success of that program.
Since growth hormone affects most cells in the body (by inducing the release of IGF-1 and 2) it is quite helpful to those who are a bit older. The down side is that a years worth costs about $20,000. It does make a nice difference though if you need it. As an example, I could still bench press over 350 when I was 60.
Anti aging medicine is growing quite fast, and it is growing all over the world. The sad part about anti aging medicine, is that in the US, our health care system will not pay for a program unless you are sick. The anti aging program does a good job of keeping you health, but you are not sick, so, no insurance. In that regard, it tends to be the older and more financially stable that take advantage of that program.
