I have a long history with opioids. I started eating norco 10/325 (hydrocodone) when I was eighteen, my dad had a shitload of norco tablets from oral surgery (gum disease). He suffered like a soldier but never used his narcotics. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd at the time and was using hydrocodone and methadone recreationaly, but hardly ever. That was until I found were my dad kept the hydrocodone; he must of had over 200 pills. It was more than enough for me to become emotionally and physically dependent. You may be thinking I am an idiot for doing this to myself but I honestly could
not help it; I became addicted very quickly to opioids because of genetic and environmental factors. After I took my fathers narcotics I became a drug seeking opioid pounding machine. I graduated to
oxycontin and methadone, but would drive to the dirty south side of Chicago to score Heroin when I couldn’t get oxy’s or methadone. This went on from approximately from june 03 to Nov. 04. I relapsed with avegence in the fall of 06. Recently, since july 5, 07 I was inducted into opioid maintenance to get to the route of my problem. My choice was either methadone or Suboxone. I used to abuse methadone so it was not a option, and you still can use other opioids on methadone. Suboxone(buprenorphineHCI/naloxone HCI dihydrate) is a cutting edge new medicine and the first to treat opioid addiction in a private office setting. Suboxone is a partial opioid agonist that blocks other opioids from attaching to receptors in the brain. This helps you stop misusing opioids and rebuild your life; treatment and counseling is also needed. A partial agonist is a opioid that produces less effect than a full agonist when it binds to opioid receptors in the brain; the naloxone which is a ingredient in suboxone blocks other opioids rendering them ineffective. In a nut shell you cannot use full agonist opioids ( methadone, oxycodone, hydrocodone, heroin) on suboxone unless you quit your medication for at least 36 hours.
I plan and currently am doing a gradual taper of suboxone and will discontinue it in the future. I don’t get high on this medication, it is not like methadone. For the record I never used intravenously(shot up)
Intravenous users usually respond better to methadone; they usually will get cravings to use other opioids while being treated with suboxone.
I have been contiplating starting wellbutrin xl 300mg. for mood swings and adult ADHD; also to help me bridge of the suboxone. From what I know wellbutrin is a very well tolerated drug; no weight gain and no sexual side effects. You acually lose weight on this drug and it can even increase your sex drive. I just wanted to share a little back round info about me; I figure if we can talk about pulling are pricks we can talk about anything. Any feed back about wellbutrin xl is appreciated.
