Combination: L-tryptophan, melatonin and GABA?

Combination: L-tryptophan, melatonin and GABA?

I order those 3 products and wanted to know if it makes sense to take them all to sleep better at night.

Is there anything I have to pay attention to?

Why bother. Surely that’s overkill. Try them one by one first and see what you think is most effective. I’ve done well with tryptophan that’s the only one I’ve tried. Tryptophan coverts to melatonin when taken at night anyway.

Gaba works as a relaxant doing anti-anxiety properties, that is what the Xanax works on by drug companies, screeching the brakes on anxiety.

Tryptophan works on a long process to create Serotonin.

“For many organisms (including humans), tryptophan is an essential amino acid. This means that it cannot be synthesized by the organism and therefore must be part of its diet. Amino acids, including tryptophan, act as building blocks in protein biosynthesis. In addition, tryptophan functions as a biochemical precursor for the following compounds (see also figure to the right):

* Serotonin (a neurotransmitter), synthesized via tryptophan hydroxylase.[7][8] Serotonin, in turn, can be converted to melatonin (a neurohormone), via N-acetyltransferase and 5-hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase activities.[9]
* Niacin is synthesized from tryptophan via kynurenine and quinolinic acids as key biosynthetic intermediates.[10]” from the wikipedia entry

Tryptophan has to have cofactors or additional “catalyziers” to help along in the process, you can’t exclude them.

I know Lewd Ferrigno personally.

I believe the cofactors of trytophan would be b6 and C. First if you are short of Niacin, it will flow there to patch any defiencies. If you are fine there it goes to serotonin seeing the quota need of Niacin has been taking care of.

Semi-related, a wee bit different

Guidelines For Taking Tryptophan

Like all natural substances, tryptophan needs help to convert to serotonin. These co-enzymes are B6 and Vitamin C.

Tryptophan converts to niacin before finally becoming serotonin. If your body is deficient in niacin, the tryptophan you take will supply you with niacin, not serotonin. For this reason, it is a good idea to take a B-complex vitamin daily. It will give you both B6 and niacin and allow your tryptophan to make more serotonin.

The B vitamin, INOSITOL changes into a substance that regulates serotonin’s effectiveness within nerve cells. A recent double blind study confirms inositol’s effectiveness with depression. Inositol powder is sweet and good tasting. One and 1/2 teaspoonful three times daily is the researched dosage. American Journal of Psychiatry, 1995 Of all the amino acids, tryptophan is least able to cross the blood-brain barrier. It must pass this biological hurdle in order to be converted to serotonin. You can give it the right “nudge” by taking it with fruit juice. The carbohydrate will trigger insulin release, which will assist the tryptophan across the blood-brain barrier. Always take tryptophan on an empty stomach.

Thanks a lot for the info Twat.

Some plain tryptophan is on the way because I was too dumb to look shit up but I now ordered some stuff with the coenzymes in it, so there’s no doubt that it will work.

Baldrianextrakt 25 mg *
Melatonin 1 mg *

I yesterday I took a 3mg melatonin pill but it felt like my 5mg Ambien didn’t hit as usual. Could be because late in the afternoon I took some L-Tyrosine which still had an effect.

But I read somewhere that too much melatonin could be counterproductiv for a good sleep.

BTW The Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2 is one of my all time favourite horror movies, love your Chop Top avatar.
