Finpecia, tongue coating

I have been taking .625mg of Finpecia for about 18 months now to try and keep my hair.

It is the only drug I take, have not smoked in a few years.

Sorry if this is going to gross you out but I have a coating on my tongue, much worse at the back. It is brown coloured.

I clean my tongue every day when I brush my teeth but the coating comes right back.

I know there are a lot of guys taking Propecia, Finasteride on here and I just wondered if any of you have noticed the same thing?

Not been to the Dr in years but will mention it next time I am there.

Haven’t had that problem, but I’m on a weird dosage of 1.25mg Finasteride only once a week.

To explain, I cut the 5mg pills in quarters to save money. I never had a bald spot on top or back of head, but my hair was thinner there. What bothered me was a receding hair line in the front when I hit 40. I started at 1.25mg every day. My hair thickened up on top a lot and most of my front hair line came back. I also lost most of my body hair, even though I didn’t have a tremendous amount to start with, but my wife liked that. But a side effect was, even though I wanted sex w/ my wife, snakey wouldn’t always do his part. So I cut back and took 1.25mg on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. That helped a lot, but then I cut back to Mondays and Fridays, but still wasn’t 100% back to the old horn dog. So I tried just once a week on Mondays. Been doing it for a few years now w/ no head hair loss and back to doing it like a bunny.

Sorry I don’t have an answer about the tongue thing. But if the doc says it’s a side effect, you might try a less frequent dose like I did for a different side effect. Good luck.

I’ve been on finasteride for several years and have never had any tongue coating problems. Like man9worm my body hair virtually disappeared (back-completely, belly-somewhat, chest- almost all gone, but I never had much to begin with). I’m doing the same thing with the five milligram tablets, but I take the 1.25 daily and I’ve never had erection or libido problems.

I guess that means that each guy has is own “workable dose” and some experimentation may be needed to balance the useful qualities of the drug and the adverse side effects. Although finpecia is supposed to be generic finasteride, I’m never sure about drugs like that. Do you buy it online or from a pharmacy/chemists?

Also - What else are you doing with your tongue? Cunnilingus? Analinqus? What are you eating or drinking? Try to evaluate every angle before blaming the drug.

man8worm, I was not bald anywhere but I did feel my hair was thinning ever so slightly. I was 37 years old.
I started off off taking 1.25mg a day by cutting a 5mg tablet into quarters.

The only thing I noticed was my semen became more watery for a few weeks, it seems to be back to normal now.
Unfortunately I never lost any body hair :)
I don’t have any back hair but have it on my legs, chest, abs and upper arms, dark but not thick hair.

I got extra horny for the first few weeks, now my libido is back to how it was.
It fluctuates with my moods and depending on whether I look for visual stimulation or not.

I now cut my 5mg tablet in 8 pieces.

Westla, yes I bought the Finpecia online from a company in India. Very reliable. But I don’t know how good the quality is.

No lingus whatsoever here :)

I suppose the coating could be from a number of things, maybe my diet which is high in protein.
I thought I would ask other Finasteride users to see if it is a common side effect first.

Actually it was my dentist who mentioned it to me first. He said my teeth are in good condition but he thought I was brushing my teeth too often and too hard and wearing away the gums and that my tongue was coated.

Next time I will ask him what I should do about it.

I know it is difficult to smell your own breath but however hard I try mine does not smell bad at all in fact I can’t smell anything.

I take 1.25 every day and no problems to report except a lost in sex drive the first month I was on it, maybe it’s something in the coating of the pill. It may be totally unrelated have you stopped taking it for a month to see if it went away.

In my first post I meant I take Fincar (5mg) not Finpecia (1mg).

Westla, do you remember how long after starting Finasteride some of your body hair fell out?

I am beginning to wonder if I should buy Finasteride next time instead of Fincar.

I think it happened over a couple months after starting the drug. About the same amount of time it took to regrow my scalp hair.

Yup, the real Merck edition. I get a bottle of 30 (I work in a hospital and can get a plain bottle of 30 without the fancy calendar packaging - and I don’t get all that much of a discount from the price on that site) and break them into four pieces. That gives me about four months worth of drug.

I hear that tongue coating, much like zits and stuffy/runny noses, has a lot to do with your body trying to excrete toxins and flush them from the body. It’s normal for people to have a little coating when they wake up, but perhaps this stuff isn’t so good for you if the coating is that thick.

I use Fincar, and take about .33mg per day to combat my hairloss. So far it’s been a big success at thickening thinning areas as well as reducing the most annoying body hair that had shown up over the last 15 years.

How do I measure .33mg? I dissolve 20mg of fincar in 60ml of liquor and take 1ml of it once per day.

On the topic. I don’t see additional tongue coating that I could attribute to finasteride.

MDC, should I try your minuscule daily dosage rather the 1.25mg once a week I ended up doing? Your method sounds much better than the pill cutting too.

Bluenun, the generics from India work just as well for me. I work in a chem lab and could have assayed the stuff vs name brand, but never bothered because I kept my hair with the Indian stuff too. On the loss of body hair, I don’t think that is advertised as a universal side effect and probably depends on the individual. As per my ED difficulties, I’m very sensitive to the stuff. I wasn’t very hairy to start with, just hairier than in my early twenties when I married my wife. I think that’s what pleased her about losing virtually all my body hair. But I don’t give a rat’s ass about it. Even my underarm hair and public hair is thinner. No change to facial hair.
