I think the reason that Maca has mixed results for people is the fact that Maca messes with the serotonin levels in your brain.
This may explain why the study mentioned in the beginning of this thread was of no use - they were looking at the wrong thing.
When I did my own (web based) research on Maca prior to taking it, I came across a mention of Maca’s effect on brain chemistry.
The reading I came across claimed it was marginal and at best might produce a general feeling of well being. The same reading also
claimed that it was referred to as the “poor mans Viagra” occasionally.
No big deal I figured, so I decided to try some of it myself. I remember people here claiming it gave you a bigger load.
At first it was cool. Yea I got a bigger load. Way bigger. And it did seem to be like V in that I got bigger & fatter & stiffer erections.
I also did experience the “general feeling of well being” and I liked the effect. So it seemed like a good thing.
However….
About the 4th or 5th time of taking it though, it started to mess up my head. Real bad. I started getting moody after taking it.
Then I got down right depressed and even somewhat paranoid. The wife even mentioned on several occasions that I seemed to be getting quite emotional over stuff. What she said was something like; WTF’s up with you lately, I think you’re the one with hormone problems. LOL.
The stuff made me angry, jealous, nervous, depressed, paranoid, and the last time I took it I experienced some what of a minor psychotic
episode. That was enough for me. I even wrote TT a PM back about Xmas about how much the stuff was messing me up.
That was my experience with Maca. Yea, I realize there’s a lot of people around here that have taken it with no ill effects. So to each their own.
I’ve also had some similar reactions to proscribed pharmaceuticals, so maybe it was just my F’d up chemistry.
I’m already real suspect of the Vitamin palaces and self proclaimed health food gurus that promise all sorts of things if you take this or that.
Do your own research and weigh the consequences carefully. You never hear much con in these discussion, usually just the pros.
Well this stuff fucked my head up big time.
There, to each their own.
