Suppliment Ordering To End in June 2005?

Do you guys really think this is for real? It seems SO far fetched, like out of a movie of the future where nobody has any rights and we all have bar-codes on us and we are slaves… hmmm… well I mean being slaves and knowing it though. lol :chuckle:

If this seriously goes down, I’m going to form the Rebel Alliance to take down the evil Empire. How could they take away vitamins and supplements? That’s ridiculous, it’s just the government trying to take out herbal medicine, home remedies etc. You would think that Canada having a heath-care system, would want people healing and taking care of themselves to cut medical costs! Also vitamin and supplements are a billion dollar industry, wouldn’t this interfere severely with commerce? I’m moving to CHINA!

Weird, I haven’t seen Hi-Health or GNC show any “going out of business” ads on TV.. And I can’t seem to find any hard source to this story on the internet (found a few related that affected the EU but not the US).. So I guess I should breath easy, right?

Without looking it up, I think it comes into play in EU in August, at which point we all start importing from the US (like we pretty much do already). Are there any composite companies/stocks that secretly invest in Roid dealers? I’ll buy in.

If they have legislation that said people can’t make claims about what something cures or assists, but can only say what the contents and theoretical bioavailability is, then I’d be supporting it. When they say we can’t choose what we buy then you’ve got to wonder who they’re really protecting (as if it weren’t already too obvious).

As was quoted in our local rags this weekend about our *Labour* Prime Minister: “The chaps not for turning” :D

Things I’ll be stocking up on:

Potassium Iodide
Bromelain
Wormwood, Cloves, Black wormwood
Gaba
GLA
Possibly Vit C megadoses for occasional use.

Good point, if this was happening for certain, you would think that businesses involved in selling supplements would be up in arms about it, but I’ve heard nothing besides this thread and the links Hobby posted.

Yeah, I really doubt there is anything to worry about with this. There are enough lobbyists in our government representing the major health chains that would put the kibosh on their business. Besides, Republicans are so-called “Big Business” people, they’re smarter than this if only from a business-wise perspective. Anything that would destroy, or at least severely damage, an entire industry would not only hit them in their own pockets, but also have an impact on the US economy. This would affect far too many corners of the US socio-economic system.

Think about this for a moment, meat producers feed their livestock crap food with vitamin supplements. Vitamin costs go up, meat and dairy prices go up to match the increase. GNC and their clones (Vitamin World, Vitamin Shoppe, etc…) dwindle if not close completely. Gyms around the nation that have clientele that not only purchase supplements from the gym itself (ala protein shakes at the bar) and purchase the OTC supplements from other vendors can’t anymore and begin to lose customers (come on, sup’s give you an edge in your training and without them the less committed will feel defeated and just quit); no more Gold’s Gym (though this would not disappoint me - for reasons beyond this of course).

All I’m trying to point out is just how broad the scope of these bans would be and how unlikely it is they would be applied.

I’m afraid it’s not BS. Life Extension Foundation is the premier organization for supplements that has been involved in supplement studies for 25 years. They have this WTO and Codex stuff included in their news and so I’m inclined to believe it’s a threat, but how strong of one I don’t know. I haven’t followed it much, but will be watching closer now. I’m a strong believer in supplements and this would effect me big time.

Well I’ve already sent an email to everyone on my list, I think we should all spread the word as much as possible and maybe this thing can be curved politically without the need for violence.

Too late, Reds. It’s already happened.

In Canada, Nutritional supplements are already classified as “Drugs”, since they are not “Food” (per Health Canada regulations, “Importation of Human Use Drugs for Personal Use Enforcement Directive” you can only import a limited supply of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, etc.).

Support Bill C-420! It will re-classify nutritional supplements under “Food”, and remove outdated clauses (3.1 and 3.2) of the “Food and Drugs Act” have been used to take low-risk, high-benefit vitamin, mineral and herbal products off the market.

Hmmm… well do you know where I could find the amounts you can legally import? Cause I usually stalk up on arginine all at one time to save on shipping.

And any more detailed info about these Canadian laws would be handy if you got it.
