Whey and Protein Question

I noticed this huge container of 100% Whey right next to protein powders in the window of GNC. Since you are asking about this, do you mind telling me what it is for.

whey Protien is for adding more protien to your diet, protien is used for building muscle, but you already knew that.

So why do they have protein and then whey protein? (Didn’t realize Whey was protein as well).

Anna, whey isn’t protein as such. Whey is, as you might know, the waste product from making cheese curd. Whey is a mixture of water, lactose, protein, fat and minerals. The whey can be filtered to leave behind mostly protein afterwards. It is dried and is then called whey protein powder.

A possible reason that they had a protein section and then a whey section, might be because the word “whey” has come to be widely associated with protein in most people’s minds (not you however), so the shop might use the protein section space to put in lesser known proteins, which protein customers might not associate as protein if it isn’t in the protein section and therefore might not buy it.

Protein can also come from many sources, such as egg, soy, etc. Whey identifies it as a milk source.

Cassein powder is another protein from a milk source. Milk protein powder has both cassein and whey (serum) proteins.
