Hair Loss

I’ve been taking Finasteride, using Minoxidil and Nizoral since 2002 and all three have been the reason why I haven’t LOST my hair. I didn’t gain much back, and I shed alot to this day, but I have alot more than I would have had if I didn’t actively do something about it. Finasteride attacks it generally from a internal hormonal level, minoxidil attacks it on the surface, and yes, does the most effective work on the crown. Nizoral helps clean your scalp and follicles of fungus and other microscopical “stuff” so your hair and scalp is healthier and doesn’t flake from the Minoxidil. I would also recommend a good conditioner because using Minoxidil will dry out your scalp and hair and it can get itchy and flaky. Currently, there is not much else you can do, besides a hair transplant, but you’re no where near that stage I presume.

As far as progress, many experience shedding, but not all. I wouldn’t worry too much about it because shedding is seasonal and your hair will come back. And the little “vellous” hairs in front may get a little thicker and denser, but they will never get back to the way it used to be. If you start now, you may not lose them. You’ll probably see something happening in about 4-6 months if you stick to the regiment, and by something I really mean not losing any more hair. It will take about 8-10 months before you see denser vellous hairs, if it does happen.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reality check guys. :) It’s good to hear genuine opinion. I don’t want false hopes.

Oh well, at the very least, I guess it would be nice to atleast retain my hair. The WORST thing for me would for it to get EVEN thinner.

BUT, on the bright side, atleast hopefully I can shed some body hair too from this. Then I’d be hitting two birds with one stone with things I’m self conscious about.

Do you guys have any information on proscar and body hair?

Thanks again.

I found some things about it with a Google search. Try combinations of “finasteride” “body hair” “reduced” “less” and words like that.

Well, today marks the first day of my Proscar journey. I’ll let you know my results.

Hello.

A silly question.
Would someone with a past background of E.D be affected in taking Finasteride?

Thank you.

Oh the good old hairy days of youth…

I’m 23 and shave my head as a means of dealing with my baldness. It’s a big pain in the ass. If finasteride works for you, you’re likely best off avoiding the razor and the “bald is beautiful crowd”.

As for myself, I’ve receded to the point where using finasteride seems completely futile. Does anyone know the impact finasteride has on scalp locations where the hairline used to be? In my case this can be as much as 1.5 inches from my current receded hairline. Would hair regrowth occur in such locations or would it just be a matter of thickening occurring on the part of the scalp on which hair remains? Don’t feel bad if you need to bash my lingering hope by being brutally honest with me. I manage to pull of the bald look reasonably well.

PS I was the kid in high school with a massive curly mop head. I could store an entire pencil case worth of material in my hair without it falling out. Although, I can now signal rescue planes… so it’s a tossup.

Cheers,
G&G

I suppose that would depend on what caused the ED. The effects and side effects of the drug are not permanent. If you feel you could benefit from taking it, give it a try. You can always stop if you don’t like the results.

I believe most reports state that finasteride works on the crown better than on the frontal hairline. It’s more than just more hair where you have hair, there can be regrowth in areas without hair.

Here’s one report I found:

Thanks Westla.

I am on a programme by Maximum Hair in the UK, but originally from the US. I take supplements, use a laser comb, use minoxidil drops, use a sebum (oil) remover in the form of drops before shampooing, a special shampoo and a special conditioner. Halfway through and seeing improvement and some guys get a lot of improvement. Google it and have a look! Well worth it as it is a holistic, permanent solution.

Avoid drugs at all costs! The main cause is improper removal of your hormones (testosterone), so get healthy, get your liver sorted and that is the best maintenance and prevention! Can’t stress essential fatty acids enough! If the only thing you do is get saw palmetto, you are on the right track, as it blocks the hormone causing male pattern baldness. That is why men only get it!

How much for such a miracle?

Finasteride works, but it will absolutely CrusH your libido in the long run. I’d agree with what others have said with regards to staying away from it! I feel it has seriously fucked up my life in the long run, but yeah.. I’ve still got my hair (just can’t feel my dick).

No joke.. Think twice about taking it.. It works, but it has a long term cost.

That doesn’t sound very good. :(

Well I’ve been using proscar for a month now and I’ve experienced no loss in sex drive. (Yet). So far so good though.
