Chlamydia

I hope I am allowed to post this here.
I was searching and reading about Chlamydia on google and picked up a lot of information but have a couple of unanswered ones and thought that some members on here might know.

My friend telephoned me in tears last night as she was tested for STD’s.

All were clear except anti-bodies for Chlamydia were found.

She had Chlamydia found 5 years ago and it was treated with anti-biotics, the next test a week or so later was clear.

She has had no sexual partners since (she tells me everything and is open with me) but is arranging to meet a guy soon so she got tested again and was horrified to find it was there again.

The Dr prescribed a weeks course of anti-biotics again.

The first question is, how does Chlamydia come back after anti-biotic treatment if she has had no sexual contact?
She would not lie about this as I tell her about all my sexual liaisons.

After she finished this weeks course and if she is clear when tested again is it safe for her to have sex with this guy (he has also been tested for STD’s).

Maybe the levels of Chlamydia were very small so as it was not detected in any test. Either that or there were antibiotic resistant Chlamydia in her body. I am not sure about having sex though. If she DID have antibiotic resistant Chlamydia, then she could transmit.

From what I know Chlamydia cannot ever be cured, it’s levels can only vary. But I’m not sure though.

Clamydia infections occur in various forms, so your question is not specific enough. Treatment (choice of antibiotics and duration of medication) depend on the specific situation. The disease, if not cured appropriately may become chronic and will then be much More difficult to treat (and the treatment duration will be much longer).

Your friend needs to see a physician who is specialized in sexually transmitted diseases.

You know what, I talked to my Doc about STD’s and the clap is usually CURED with a weeks worth of Doxacycline (sp?). And then its gone.

You all are still missing the point... The story was great and all but should have ass (and) some anal in it.- RWG

tickticktickler, she did go to an STD clinic, he is the same Dr that tested her 5 years ago and prescribed a course of anti-biotics which cleared it up when she was tested again 1 week later.

This time she has been prescribed a 1 week course (3 times a day) of Doxacycline.

So I am assuming with the time that has passed that this is not Chronic.

After she finished this weeks course and if she is clear when tested again is it safe for her to have sex with this guy?

Ask the doctor.

I have to be honest, all I have heard is that Chlamydia is curable and so maybe the first course of drugs didnt get it but certainly the second one should. I am no doctor although I have been known to play one sometimes.

If my doc said I was cured Id be having sex.

Good point, T.

We all need to take a good look at our general antibiotic consumption. These bugs are mutating.

Yep, antibiotic Resistance. You hear about all these people DEMANDING antibiotics for simple infections or illnesses that can be cured with a simple lifestyle change or whatever. People get a cold and they demand antibiotics. The funny thing that people do not realise is that antibiotics do not work against viruses.

I thought I would go to get tested for STD’s myself today, blood, urine and Urethral swab, ouch!

While there I asked how my friend had got Chlamydia again if she had not had sex with anyone since the anti-biotics cleared it up last time.

The Dr and the assistant I asked to see afterwards both said that they are 99.9% sure that once the anti-biotics had cleared it up last time that she could only get it again by having sex with someone infected.

I think that it is safe for her - the question is rather whether it is safe for HIM. Since she is treated by a STD specialist he would know and suggest her how to act safely and she should follow his suggestions.

In that case she had sex with so.
