Discomfort after orgasm ("refractory period")?

Apparently the “refractory period” following orgasm sometimes makes the dick painful/sensitive to touch (Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw states this as a universal fact).

For me, the erection goes down for at least 10-20 minutes - but continuing stimulation as it deflates isn’t uncomfortable.

Sensitive yes, especially the head. But not painful.

The pain is in fact part of the nature of sexual stimulation. You get a feeling of satisfaction - that’s what makes you want to have sex. For some it is more powerful than others. And probably deteriorates with age. (But that could be because you get used to it).

Pain = satisfaction? I like orgasms as much as the next guy. I assume.

It feels kind of pointless to keep stroking the deflating dick after orgasm, since I’m no longer horny, but not unpleasant at all.

Wikipedia just has a “may” on this subject: “The penis may be hypersensitive and further sexual stimulation may even feel painful during this time frame.”

Prolactin is released by the brain after orgasm. Prolactin is the cause of the refractory period and “hypersensitivity” after orgasm. Dopamine is a prolactin-inhibitor - low dopamine levels can cause the prolactin spike to me more pronounced post orgasm, while high dopamine levels can cause a man to barely have any refractory period due to prolactin release being inhibited by the dopamine. Generally men showing a higher prolactin level in blood testing have longer or more sensitive refractory periods. With no dopamine, you would always be hyper-sensitive due to prolactin being released continuously.

I cannot have my penis touched right after orgasm. To be more specific, just the head. Is there anything I can do/take to decrease it?

It’s SO sensitive that it hurts like pricks. Within 5-10 minutes I’m fine however.
