Does Viagra Work for You?

I have no problem with getting an errection, however with me only being 18 (19 in november) I havnt had much sexual activity in my life. Me and my girlfreind have only had sex 4 times in the year we have been together (up and down relationship/freindship kinda thing). I was wondering if I was to take some Viagra would it keep my erection even after climaxing, reason for this being so I can continue to pleasure my girlfreind. Havent given her a orgasm yet and I really want to, thats why I’ve come here to try add to the size of my unit to pleasure her more.

All you guys here have such a layed back and mature approach to this sexual stuff with I find great.

Seems reasonable. Also, some people with ED may find that viagra doesn’t work for them initially, but after finding a solution that works for them, and having regained erections for some time, they may then find that viagra does work for them. I guess it depends on the nature of the ED and the duration the condition has been present.

I guess that depends on whether you lose erection after ejaculation, or whether it’s because it then becomes uncomfortable so you discontinue. It may help, but more likely it’s because of the build up of prolactin, which viagra doesn’t affect. It might help in terms of reducing the refractory period before getting another erection.

Rather than using viagra, I think it would be much smarter to find techniques that help you last longer. Also the fact that your girlfriend is very young could be part of the reason for not experiencing orgasm yet. That and having only done this 4 times, maybe it’s about her being relaxed. If she thinks you’re on a mission, she may feel pressured to perform and push the elusive further away. Besides, it’s something you can both explore, and have fun doing it.

A flaw in the system of prescription, anyway, is that few doctors either understand how the drug works or take the time to offer hints about its use when they hand it out or prescribe it. Many guys with ED who could benefit from it end up failing and assume it does not work for them without giving it a good trial.

Hints:

Eat no food, even snacks, for about three hours before you take it. Once it is in your system, you can eat and it will usually work fine, so just time your “romantic” dinners out, but lay low on fatty meals.

Alcohol in sensible amounts does not seem to affect it.

Men with ED will get a better over-all reaction by taking it regularly for awhile, not just on a “need” basis for sex: like just on the weekend, or whatever. Regular use reduces the side effects (flushed face, headache, etc.) in most users. In some these side effects disappear entirely.

Try different dosages. If the first one (say, 25 mg) doesn’t do anything after a couple tries, move up to 50 mg. Do a couple solo runs on it first so you will get a sense of how quickly (or slowly) it will work for you before you test it in bed. In bed, with a new partner especially, we tend to be a little tense (hello, adrenalin!). Testing it out before hand will reduce that stress/anxiety because you will know what to expect.

Viagra does have a reputation for tending to lengthen one’s ejaculation timing, but this is dosage-related for most . Higher dosages increase the risk of anorgasmia for those susceptible to this side effect of sildanafil. If you get to that stage, you may not be able to cum to save yourself. Totally frustrating to you and your partner. If that happens, cut back on your dosage next time.

Well I learnt a few things there!

I don’t know about alcohol in sensible amounts (I have a binary intake), but in large amounts I’ve found it ineffective. Cialis on the other hand seems to work no matter what.

I take it that means no drink (alcohol) before hand too? If so, then maybe I’ve been a bit harsh on viagra, and not using it in the best way.

Nope. I’ve washed V down with Chardonnay but a shot of good Kentucky bourbon probably wouldn’t bother either.

The alcohol effect would not apply with a “couple of drinks,” anything sensible. Get whacked, though, and V probably won’t get you up.

I had some generic V that never really seemed to give me much of a boost. The best result was w/ about 50 mg and I lasted about 1/2 an hour. After, I went flaccid and didn’t feel any different than normal.

I just ordered some Pfizer V to try. I would like to be able to keep it rock hard for 1-2 hours and wear the wife out for a change. I used to be able to do that as a younger man but miss the good ole days. I’ll post after I try the new stuff.

Your perfect window of opportunity on V is about 4 - 6 hrs. It has a “half-life”, the time it takes to get to half the dosage you took still working, of just over 4 hrs.

It may be that the generic you got was a weaker version. Let us know how you do on the Pfizer. Don’t wear her out. :)

Awesome post, Avocet.

Viagra and me -a true life story.

I don’t want to sound like an expert which I’m not - I don’t even play an expert on TP - but I believe that Viagra doesn’t “know” whether or not the guy taking it has ED. It employs a mechanism which increases the release of NO (nitric oxide) and that mechanism works about the same in anyone who takes it apart from the roughly 20% of men who for whatever reason are not affected by the drug.

I used Viagra several times about three years ago out of curiosity. The first time I took it I was surprised that it didn’t seem to have any effect on my sex drive, didn’t make me horney. I waited about 45 minutes and then started to watch a porn video. I immediately got an erection harder than I thought was humanly possible, like I was being blown up by a bicycle pump. This resulted in a increase of sex drive for me in that being so hard made my dick extremely sensitive to stimulation, so it’s sort of a circular effect - the harder you get the hornier the hornier the harder. I had a better than usual time masterbating.

The second time I tried taking Viagra it was about an hour before I got laid. The effect on my erection was the same and everybody had a good time. I had no difficulty reaching orgasm.

About six hours later when I was about to go to sleep, I decided to try somthing. Although I was totally beat and had no interest in sex I took out a stroke book, looked at a couple of pics and got a bust-out hard on in seconds.

So it seems that for me at least that Viagra sets the erection process in motion with very little stimulation.

A year later I tried some Viagra I brought online without a perscription. It was much less effective.

Sildenafil inhibits the enzyme that breaks down cGMP. cGMP production is the result of enzymatic interaction further upstream triggered by NO.

If there is a condition interrupting NO production or any of the other processes upstream of the cGMP, then sildenafil may not be effective for that person. You could liken sildenafil to being a plug in a sink. The plug does not produce water (or NO in our case), and it still depends on a water source for the sink to fill up. I hope that makes sense why it doesn’t work for everyone (especially people who don’t pay their water bill :) ).

Right Shiver, there are some identified classes of individuals whose ED isn’t often well treated by Viagra. Can’t remember which ones, but I think diabetes is among the conditions.

Jboggs - I’ve also experimented with erection drugs a few times, despite not having any erectile problems, and I also noticed a big difference in “threshhold” for erection — I got hard just by walking around and having my pants chafing me. For this reason I like to pop a V before the first time getting with a new woman in my life; otherwise the adrenaline (or whatever it may be) often makes me rather “slow to rise” with a new woman — and I want to make a good first impression and not worry about it ;) Once I have some sexual experience with a partner, I pretty much get hard uncontrollably when I’m anywhere near them, so at that point I would never consider taking a V :D

Oh - one final note: As some others have said, food intake makes a big difference. Viagra doesn’t seem to do anything to me if I’ve eaten recently.

Oh - another final note: I have read that some research is underway to determine whether taking Viagra before going to sleep might act as a preventive measure against developing erectile dysfunction with age (or with disease). The idea is that, as all of us PEers know, you “lose it” if you don’t “use it.” Nighttime erections during REM sleep play a very important role, researchers think, in maintaining erectile capacity, and Viagra has been shown to drastically increase the frequency and quality of REM boners. PE, of course, (or frequent, long-lasting sex & masturbation) would have a similar effect, but not everyone has time for hours of playing with themselves each day. It’s great that these erectile drugs appear to be pretty darn safe (besides the very-rare eye-disease controversy). Eventually, a few decades from now, I think that ED problems will be largely a thing of the past.

That could be a bit embarrassing in the wrong context! :)

On a serious note, the above speaks in favor of the “recreational” use of these things we hear a lot about here (as long as this use is within reason, of course—whatever exactly that may be).

The diabetes effect is something most people are susceptible to, to a greater or lesser degree eventually. It’s just that in diabetics the effects are greatly accelerated.

With that sugar hanging around you get Advanced Glycemic Endpoints (AGE) which is basically where a sugar molecule binds with a protein and you get crosslinks or fibroids. The first effects are in the smallest vessels like the retina or limb extremities (inc penis), that cause blood blockage and nerve damage. Supplements may help arrest or reverse this condition to an extent, but lifestyle and genetics determine aging effects to a large degree.

If a certain regimen is able to help improve the situation (supplements, medication, jelqing etc), then it’s conceivable that where viagra was previously ineffective, after forced blood flow and nutrition those pathways could have more capacity, and viagra may then be more effective. As is usual in these matters though, it’s not always as simple in practise as in theory.

From the Viagra.com website:
Effective in 82% of men studied (vs. 24% for placebo) regardless of level of ED.
Effective in 87% of men with mild to moderate ED (vs. 36% for placebo).
So level of ED does play a factor in how well in might work for you.
This makes sense since ED is usually caused by diseased arteries, which may or may not be able to respond adequately to increased NO.

Para Goomba’s comment about Viagra preventing ED: The study was, I believe, 1 year with 2 groups of men. the first group was asked to take V 50mg every night, and the other group took it whenever they wanted or needed it for sex. After a year, 58% of the men who took it nightly reported that they no longer needed it to have sex, vs. 9% of those who took it occasionally. The theory was (as para goomba stated) that increased nocturnal erections have a therapeutic healing effect in the long term.

I wonder what that study would have shown if they separated them into degrees and type of ED? I think moderately diseased arteries could respond very well to viagra long term. But then again they would probably also respond to jelqing.
