How to go to Medical School

I don’t even know why I am writing this other than I get pissed at time so I’m venting.

First off everyone can go to med school because all doctors are dumb, unless of course you really need them like if you break your arm or put a stick in your eye. Even then some of you will say they’re just dumb as rocks.

So you start off going to a good college because med schools don’t look at you if you go to Trump University or Inspirit College of Hoboken. Now you know how to get into a good college; you have to pay attention in high school, get good marks, and get good scores on your college boards. So your actually trek begins when you’re in 9th grade.

Okay so now you’re in a good college spending 60 grand a year and you have to take courses.
No you can’t take liberal arts or pottery; you have to stick with those things they call biological science. Those are courses that don’t let you go out and drink beer every night. They’re things like inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, cellular biology, physics, biochemisty one and even boichem2. Yes they even have a biochem3 but they call it something else. So while some are majoring in beer pong the dopey hopeful doctors to be are in the library.

Oh grades; yes you just can’t take those courses. You have to do well in them. You see you really have to be in the top 10% of your class before a med school will take a look at you. At the same time you have to be nice to the guys that teach you because you need some letters of recommendations from those guys and if they don’t like you then you’re out of luck.

Now after you have busted your ass for 4 years while most of your friends are getting laid you have this little test called the MCAT. Now no matter how well you did in college and how many nice letters you got if you don’t do well on this test you’re done.

Now med schools don’t have lots of seats so even if you did well on everything you can just be one of 75 students applying for one seat and as some of you know they would only take the dumbest to add their profession.

Or you can just go to Cuba . There are also a lot of former eastern block countries trying to replicate this.

Good beaches, good liquor, good climate; just hate their food!

Well, you go to a school in the Carribean. Once you graduate from there, they give you great placements like the expensive med schools.

Let us not forget about Grenada.

You still have to pass all these things called tests to see if you are even qualified to get a residency and you won’t get out of a residency unless you’re qualified to practice. Good article; doesn’t tell the full story but hey nice pictures.

I met a friend of a friend a few years ago. This guy was going to a school on the islands down there. He explained it all out how less expensive it was. He also explained as long as a certain grade is met on some standardized test, a great residency is there to chase at. The person in question wanted to specialize in Cancer and had no real problems coming from an overseas school. He also claimed it was much more common than you think and that almost everyone has interacted with a student from one of these foreign schools a few times in any medical situation, let alone a hospital.

Are you a medical field person?

The US is maybe a special case, it seems the restrictions are prohibitive on a quick google. Certainly it’s easy in the EU. The amount of doctors who are imported is immense, so much so that some complain of brain drain in the countries who need the doctors most. I’ve only personally known a couple of doctors who’ve come in to the UK and the process has become a lot simpler with increasing acceptance for overseas qualifications. Hell, you can even practice in the EU with a US medical qualification.

There is also a push in medical schools the last 25 years for students without an official premed like degree to prep with. English majors, Comm, Psych, Business etc……

Another interesting thing was China practicing Western Med had too many specialists, so there docs were going for a reverse generalist minor years after getting their absolute specialty to try and mop up the slack.

I don’t know if I explained myself well enough in the previous post. I am saying American residents going off to the Caribbean islands for the school and returning.
There are so many foreign doctors in America it is like trying to get a cab in the city and find a native born here.

I think you explained yourself. Or at least I understood. The qualification is the same whether you are a US citizen going abroad to study or someone from that country studying, so I was focussing on the qualification.

The Chinese thing is interesting. I wonder how many doctors they export and whether they are stamped with an apple logo.
