I really don't want to post this

I have to say that Thundersplace would be the best place to ever post the following. I must first say I’m sorry about this, but I just can’t make up my mind about something. I hope no one when thinking of plastikosman thinks “wow, he’s just stupid and weird.”

Well… I guess what I’m asking is… if a girl has herpes… should I stay totally away, as in not even kiss her. I read a lot about transmission and whatnot… and let me share everything I think. If a girl has genital herpes, and she touches the open sores with her hand, doesnt her hand then get herpes, and this can be spread to others by contact? I know that sounds crazy, but its the idea I got from my reading. If that were the case wouldn’t herpes be more prevalent?

Sorry again for this question.

I’m sure I could do some wikipidia / google and find the answer but this is my .02:

Herpes (like other STDS) have to get inside the person - obviously. So by her touching her herpes with her hands and touching someone it doesn’t spread that. Unless she touches an open wound or cut/opening on another’s body.. Then I guess he would have herpes.. Actually I don’t know enough about herpes and this is a good question - haha. I know oral herpes can be spread by kissing, and I don’t know if that’s because of saliva or because a herpes sore was exposed and blood or herpe juice got in another’s mouth..

I don’t know the effect of just touching herpes but I guess if she rubbed it and then stuck her hand in your mouth or gave you a handjob then you could obviously get it. Just touching skin is not a transmittable happening - that I know. (Thus herpes is not more prevalent)

Basically this post is just a FYI until someone that is more knowledgeable posts or I research it..
Goodluck

Wow that guy plastikosman is real stupid and weird!

LOL just kidding, I don’t see anything wrong with this question, Its a good question, I’m sorry I don’t have the answer to this question, I don’t have much knowledge on these things, but I’m totally sure someone is going to know EVERYTHING about this subject, If not you can always use Google.

p-man,

You ask a very good question that I am sure many would like to know. I can’t tell you specifically how herpes is spread, but I know there are a lot of people who have it that are not sure how they got it. Recent TV ads claim 70% of infections came when their partner showed no signs of an outbread. Obviously it can be spread without warning signs. A quick google comes up with tons of info so it would be reduntant to try and post links here.

I think part two of your question is “should I stay completely away.” I know several girls, hot girls, that have had some pretty ugly cold sores on their mouth. I have never been intimate with any of them, nor do I know if they have any other infections. I can tell you this I am very cautious around them simply because I have a strong desire to remain completely disease free. I don’t think this is selfish. If the hottest babe on the planet wanted me, and I knew she was infected, she would not have a chance. I think it is simply too dangerous to take the risk. Call me shallow if you wish but that’s the way it is. I would avoid any physical contact with anyone with a std.

Definitely you can’t rule out this possibility. Fortunately girls don’t scratch their crotches too often.

OneHung, I share the same passion you do, to remain disease free. All the websites say herpes is spread via skin to skin contact, sex, etc etc. but this is always in reference to sex. I can’t find any information on something like crotch to hand to hand unless that’s covered under skin to skin contact. It’s also called genital herpes. I basically don’t know what to think at all. I can easily abstain from sex, that’s not the issue… It’s more of an issue of, if 25% of women and 20% of men have herpes in the world, why isn’t it spread to everyone… what’s the exact way to transmit it. If I were to stay friends with this girl I mentioned, can I hug her worry free… kiss her worry free if it’s GENITAL herpes?

Sparky, an interesting thing I read was that women with herpes masturbate a lot, probably because they don’t want anyone else to see the area.

These are great questions I also wondered if a chick has genital herpes can you get it by just exchanging a kiss on the mouth.

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

How do you catch genital herpes?

* Genital herpes is spread by direct contact with the infectious virus. You can catch herpes from somebody with genital herpes via unprotected vaginal or anal sex, genital contact or through oral sex with someone who gets cold sores.
* Genital herpes and cold sores are both very infectious when an infected person has blisters or sores.
* It is possible for an infected person to transmit the virus when they have no symptoms of infection. The risk of this happening is probably reduced by using condoms.

How can I catch genital herpes?

First of all, it’s worth knowing that genital herpes is very common. Evidence suggests that by the time we get to 30, 1 in 4 sexually active people carry the herpes virus, but only 1 in 8 sexually active people suffer from the blisters on either the genitals or mouth.

Oral sex, vaginal and anal sex are all ways you can catch genital herpes. You catch it on whichever bit of your skin comes into contact with the affected area on the other person. For instance, if a guy goes down on a girl with genital herpes he will probably catch the herpes virus, but because it was his face that came into contact with the virus, he’ll get cold sores on his mouth rather than blisters on his genitals. If, however, a guy who suffers from cold sores goes down on a girl, the girl may well catch genital herpes as it’s her vagina that comes into contact with the herpes virus.

A person with herpes is going to spread it to other people most easily when they actually have blister or sores. But you can catch herpes from someone even if they don’t have blisters or sores at the time you get cosy with them.

Yah, that ^

STDs freak me out too. I know would suck to miss out on a potentially great partner over it, but herpes would be with you for the rest of your life.

Herpes is rather insidious. You can:

1) Clear it on your own and be free of it
2) Surpress it, but still carry it
3) Supress it fairly well, but have a few outbreaks now and then
4) Have frequent outbreaks

Generally, it diminishes over time (years) as apparently any normal immune system will eventually get it under control and may even clear it - eventually.

After infection, symptoms first appear after 28 days accompanied by fever-like sickness. Apparently the first outbreak is usually the worst.

Note: I have no personal experience, this is what I’ve read - and it may be bullshit.

Direct contact with the live virus including:

Any direct contact with an herpes infection
Kissing, touching or caressing actively infected areas

Some websites say skin-to-skin contact, others something along the lines above. Any direct contact means to me if you touch the person somewhere, anywhere you get it. I just don’t get it, sorry. It only shows on the mouth and genitals? Why? Why not everywhere? I was reading it goes into nerve cells, well, there are nerve cells throughout the entire body. I guess herpes would be much more prevalent if it transferred genitals to hand… Did the virus evolve for human sexual behaviour or something and I missed this memo :/

“actively infected areas” means open sores if I am not completely mistaken.

In my family everybody had herpes (mouth), mother, father, sister - except me. Some people just don´t get infected and I am one of the lucky ones as it seems (my sister hated me for this).
So anyways, I wouldn´t kiss lick or fuck (without a condom) somebody with open sores, but thats that. I would shake hands, fondle and cuddle without thinking twice.

No need to get overly paranoid, chances are that if you get it at all (open sores) you get it once and then you are done with it.

And btw: The more “antiseptic” your lifestyle is the better are your chances to get it really bad. Being a pig has advantages, trust me on this….

New question:

If someone is immune to HSV1, or they don’t express HSV1 (just carriers), are they immune or don’t express HSV2?

I dated a girl in high school who had genital herpes. I didn’t know she had it until I found some medicine for it and confronted her. Yeah, she was a real piece of work. Luckily, I never contracted it and we had unprotected sex for a long time.

From what I’ve found out, you can only get herpes in three places: your genitals, mouth, and eyes. Getting herpes in your eyes (optical herpes) is supposed to be absolutely painful. It’s very hard to aquired herpes from somebody when they are not having an outbreak, however, there are many times somebody with herpes doesn’t know they are having an outbreak. Your best bet is to avoid oral sex and use a condom. It’s probably a good idea to wash your hands after sex too.

Gut Scramblin' goodness.
