Is there a doctor in the house?

I’m not a doctor.

Hard training (overtraining), dieting, lack of sleep, excessive drinking, being fat, and so on all affect testosterone and other hormones. Free T is only one part of the picture, but yours seems ok.

The old TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) “normal” range upper limit was 5. Several years ago it was dropped to 3. My TSH once tested a bit over 4. I was overweight, stressed and had been chronically short on sleep. It has never tested anywhere near that high since.

If I were you I’d wait a month or so and have it tested again, preferably when you aren’t overly stressing yourself with exercise, calorie restriction or whatever else. If it’s still high, then have more specific thyroid tests done.

I’m glad I could provide some entertainment for you :D .

Paraphrased: It is not the critic who counts: The credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, who, at the best, knows the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.

Thanks, Hobby. I’ll do that.

From what I understand, TSH under 2 is ideal. My later tests have all been 1.something.

TSH is a measure of your body’s perception of how much thyroid hormone it thinks is available. TSH stimulates production, so the relationship with actual thyroid levels is inverse. Higher TSH = lower thyroid hormone present.

TSH is a good, relatively cheap test for general evaluation. However, the results should be taken in context. Calorie restriction, intense exercise, sickness, and a host of other lifestyle conditions can temporarily knock it out of whack.

I usually recommend TSH around 1 up to 2.0 when patients are treated with thyroid hormones. 1 would be just perfect.
