Jock itch?

I seem to have jock itch and cannot completely get rid of it. My family doctor prescribed clotrimazole and betamethasone dipropionate cream which seems to be the only thing that has worked. The thing is, a few weeks after I discontinue use, it comes back.

I recently saw a dermatologist that prescribed Pramosone. He says the other cream I used was great, but not something to use long term because of the steroids in the cream. It’s been a few days and I haven’t noticed any difference with Pramosone.

Ive tried natural remedies from apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, zinc oxide, and some other stuff but nothing seems to make it go away completely.

Anyone else here ever suffer from jock itch and find a good cure? By the way, I’m not a heavy sweater and have excellent hygiene.

Go to a large pharmacy and have a look. There are several spray-on products that work. One has JOCK ITCH! in huge letters on the label. :)

If you wear briefs, switch to boxers or nothing for awhile after treatment.

Perhaps you are not a heavy sweater, but I really think using an antifungal powder would make a big difference.

I would highly recommend Lamisil Defense Antifungal powder. Find it with athletes foot products in your local drug store or Wal Mart for the best price.

Powder is so easy to use you can make it part of your daily after shower routine.

I wear boxers now. Ive actually tried Lotrimin AF which is for jock itch and also contains clotrimazole without the other steroids. This alone did not work.

For me, Lamisil works much better than Lotrimin. Lamisil’s active ingredient is tolnaftate.

Thanks guys. I need to find something more effective than what I’m using now. I have to report back to the dermatologist in 2 weeks and see if there’s been any progress. I may try Lamisil in the mean while.

Dude, when you get out the shower do you just towel dry and on with the underwear? Try blow drying your crotch! Works for me!

Trust me on this one. I used to have the same problem. Always get it in the same freaking spot. Would clear up for a few days with over the counter meds then come back. Thought I was allergic to latex. Thought food. I was freaking out. Then one day I noticed my hair down there was not really that dry when I got dressed. So down went the blow dryer and has not come back maybe 6 months since I discovered that. Moisture = fungus!

Edit: The latex in underwear. Not sex toys and others stuff of that nature. I’m a pretty vanilla straight dude.

Thanks man. I stay trimmed at all times so my hair is very short. I usually pat dry with a towel but have never tried a blow dryer. Maybe I’ll give it a go.

You need to keep up with the application for 2 weeks or something /after/ it’s gone.

Dust some athletes foot powder (same cause - fungus) on your balls and groin every day when you get out of the shower, make a habit of it, do it every day for a month or so. It actually feels good to use powder down there cos it gets dry straight away and stays like that all day. The reason fungus grows is that its warm and moist. After a shower is prime time for it to grow.
