laser vasectomy - anyone done this?

I am married with 3 kids and my wife and I are discussing a vasectomy. I would like to hear some stories from those of you who have done this procedure. In a nutshell I want to know the best type of procedure and information regarding pain management and recovery. I am particularly interested in the new LASER type of surgery, anyone done this??

Ask your wife about getting her tubes tied. I always read there is a higher rate of prostate cancer with a vasectomy. If im wrong, please correct me.

While laser certainly can be used, I doubt it’s any more effective or a better procedure than the one I had and recommend.

My urologist did a single 1/4” incision. Pulled out one vas, cut a segment out, then cauterized each end and tied them off. Put it back in, and repeated with the other vas through the same incision. I did experience some pain when the first vas was cut, but other than that none at all.

Recovery was also, for the most part, painless. There was some discomfort when the sperm built up a supply and had nowhere to go, but it wasn’t bad.

I wonder how the laser procedure would differ from this? I think it’s not much more than a gimmick, and not an improvment over what I had done.

Nothing to this. Men that are monogamous are at no greater risk. But men who sleep around are much more likely to pick up a disease if they’ve had a vasectomy since they are much less likely to use any protection.

Risks are MUCH greater for a woman having her tubes tied than with a vasectomy.

Do you have a wife? Did you know that tube tying is considered major invasive surgery? Compared to the minor surgery of a Vasectomy, I’m surprised anyone opts for this.

Also, I’m curious where you read about higher rates of prostate cancer after a Vasectomy? I’d really appreciate some links to back it up.

Lately, I’ve seen far too many posts of guys speaking out of their assholes without any references. One guy even said that consuming lots of fish oil would thin the blood (probably) and that could lead to strokes (um, no). Let’s have some research linked to facts (?) that may not be universally known. And if it’s just a theory of yours, state it as such.

Back on topic, apparently there is no such thing as a laser vasectomy. One (controversial) technique of reversing vasectomies uses a laser.

My apologies, I assumed all strokes were from a blood clot, and thus next to impossible from thinner blood. How ironic I myself was wrong on my own rant.

I am married and my wife does not want to get her tubes tied. It is more expensive and is also major surgery. From what I understand the vasectomy is outpatient: you walk in, do it, and waddle out.

Are there really health risks? Anyone experienced them first hand?

I asked, said I had read it. Didnt say it was fact. So im hardly talking out my ass. Heres a study that shows it is safe. I was just curious. Reading comprehension is cool. I dont have a problem learning about things I dont know. Ease up on the personal attacks.

How could thin blood cause a clot? They give coumadin (a blood thinner) to post stroke patients. I want to see a scientific study of it (preferably peer reviewed). Not some article that someone wrote that is full of their opinion.

A hemorrhagic stroke is where a blood vessel bursts in the brain and bleeds all over the place. I (mistakenly) thought that a stroke was only a clot, but it seems to be more than that. The term hemorrhage means to bleed. That was my first clue that this wasn’t a clotting stroke.

Im confused as heck now. Obviously, you dont want the blood too thin, or there is no chance of clotting when a blood vessel breaks, thus a hemorrhagic stroke. Guess I should have read what Hobby posted. Im making plenty of mistakes today.

I’m considering a vasectomy as well, this is one of the things that prevent me from doing it. Is this the same kind of pain that comes from not ejaculating for a week? Feels like the balls are about to explode…very painful indeed… is this what can be expected, and in that case, for how long? I don’t want my wife to have her tubes tied, seems like there are too high risks involved.

For me it was tender to touch for a few months. The sperm was built up there and you could feel little “marbles” which were tender when you touched them. It gradually went away over several months, and was never bad. That’s my experience, which I believe is typical.

Get a vasectomy. I had the same one MDC had, it was called a “gentle vasectomy”. No pain, in front door of clinic and out the exit in 20 minutes. Do not put your wife through a major surgery when we have this option.

You only need to wear a athletic support or snug underwear for about 5-7 days afterwards, then have a sperm count done about 8 weeks after to make sure you have no more swimmers. I think the only thing men really need to get over, is having a doctor go near his balls - the rest is simple :)
