Nighttime Trips to the Bathroom

Nighttime Trips to the Bathroom

Hi guys.

I used to never have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. But for the last couple of years (I’m 41 now), as a rule I’ve had to get up once if not two times per night to pee. Generally ruins my sleep.

Anyone know of remedies to help this? I’ve lost 16 pounds, which might help pressure on the bladder. When first starting PE I thought the kegels had fixed it, but not.

Of course I do not know the root cause, but I’ve also noticed an increase in the amount of dreams. Not nightmares, but just stupid stuff. Maybe a “nervousness” or something from the dreams is causing the bladder activity.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You might want to have a prostate exam-digital and the PSA test run.

That is usually one of the classic symptoms of BPH…..

As far as “natural” remedies, there are various herbs that may help-but I still would have the urologist check me out before attempt to self treat.

I agree with Cajun, Grower. Best to nip this in the bud if you can. I’ve been dealing with bacterial prostititis off and on for 5 years (this is different type from BPH). You don’t want to get into any highly symtomatic form of prostatitis if you can avoid it.

Yep, you don’t want to end up like us old farts peeing on our shoes….

By the way, BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia) is not just an old man’s problem…I went to the urologist when I was 35 (not THAT long ago damnit) and was told that the doctor had good news and bad news for me.

The good news: Other than a slightly enlarged prostate, there was nothing wrong!

The bad news: I should be 80 years old….

It was treated successfully with finesteride (Proscar) and after just a few weeks symptoms disappeared.

I currently take saw palmetto, pygeum, zinc, lycopene and a handfull of other junk.

I have the same problem (I’m 24 yrs old). I went to the doctor when I was 21, after I urniated on myself in my sleep. I’ve since then pissed on myself twice (usually having a dream that I’m actually standing over the can). He said my bladder is too full. Apparently I drink too much. I’ve tried to cut back on my fluid intake, but I have a constant thirst that is difficult to quench. In fact, I think there’s a name for this problem, but I can’t seem to recall it. Is there any chance you’re drinking too much a few hours before you go to bed?

Jeez, guys, I thought a worst case senario I would get a reply saying “get over it, you’re old!”

But really, I have been to the doctor and I do NOT have any of the syptoms of BPH (difficulty in starting the flow of urine, a weaker than normal stream of urine, the urge to pass urine frequently, dribbling when passing urine (especially at the end of the stream), inability to pass urine, incontinence (failure to prevent the passage of urine).

Simply having to get up once or twice at night to pee is not BPH.

I have had prostititis several years ago, and a key learning from that long story is make your doctor give you a prescription with a refill in case there is ANY sign of it coming back after the normal 10 day course of antibiotic. I still have a sensitive meatus.

the symptoms that you list will come later, nocturia is one of the earliest symptoms. Assuming your doc doesn’t find evidence for cancer and the clinical dx is BPH, he may recommend flomax or other alpha blockers or saw palmetto. The fact that you previously had prostatitis make it all the more likely you have an early case of BPH. btw ejaculate often this seems to help.

Check it out guys, no need to have a big dick if you ain't gonna use it!!

luvdadus;

I’ve been told this by three urologists (my problem is bacterial, not BPH). There is no question in my mind that during a flareup especially, ejaculating relieves symptoms, particularly the urination difficulties. During a course of anti-biotics, ejaculating frequently also helps flush bacterial colonies from within the prostate.
