I don’t found the theories plausible at all. This piece is a good example why. This is just the personal opinion of a layman of course.

Would be interesting if humans had erections through muscle contractions like monkeys do.

I have to completely agree with marinera. These theories sound plausible at the surface (but only barely) if you think like a modern man sent back in time. They fall apart quickly though when you look at it in the proper context of what would have been “attractive” or important to mates at the time.
