Prostate Cancer

Prostate Cancer

My urologist has diagnosed me with Prostate Cancer after an elevated PSA test and a Prostate biopsy. I am 48 Y’s/O. My Gleason score is (7) My PSA went from 2.9 to “13” in one year. I am classified as T2A= (Cancer is felt and occupied 50% or less). The biopsy had 12 core samples 6 on each side, cancer cells in every sample.
I am reading the book :”Prostate & Cancer, A Family Guide to Diagnosis, Treatment & Survival” by Sheldon Marks, M.D. I am in the process of getting a second opinion Also.

I am retired military and I am seeing military Doctors at a regional hospital they are not trying to sell me anything, but a second opinion does sound like a good idea. I have a while before I have to make a decision.
After any operation the Docs prescribe Viagra and a penis pump. Doc says exercise and increased blood flow is the best recovery technique. The Urologist talked about squeezing my muscles in a manner in which we on this board call Kegels.
A Lt.Cmdr in the Coast Guard, 45 y/o, had the radical prostatectomy operation and did not even need Viagra. He and his wife had good relations.
Oh well I’ll just keep a positive outlook and keep on truck’n….and hang’n

Obviously the priority is to treat the cancer. You are a young man

you are in my prayers.

I wish you well in your future treatment and eventual full recovery. Your positive state of mind will go a long way in seeing you through this successfully.

Falcon;

The good news is that most varieties of prostate cancer are very slow growing, which gives you time to think about your best options for treatment - before you get treatment.

Check into

https://www.pro … atepointers.com

There you will find a wealth of information about many therapies and much support from members. Unless your condition dictates one therapy over others, you will have a number of choices. Look around, then talk to your doctors about where to go.

Important, I think, to make clear to your doctors that you want a good sex life following treatment. When they know you want this (their eyes being focused on the cancer only), they may work harder for you toward that end.

An important tip is to begin penile exercises (pumping is a good one; frequent Viagra is another) as soon after whatever therapy you choose as you can. Waiting a long time to start back won’t benefit you.

Best wishes for you!

Falcon, my thoughts and prayers are also with you! Having dealt with a lot of cancer among my loved ones in the past two years, I can tell you that this is an enemy that can be beaten with proper care and a good attitude. Stay strong, friend! Determination and prayer/meditation are your allies.
