Sperm count

Hello everyone, been a while since I been on here. I have currently went an had a sperm count done an it shows I have a very low sperm count an very low seminal volume. I remember the volume was like 1.3 I believe an the sperm count thinking he said it was 24. Now he wants me to go get my T levels checked. Well was wondering is there something out there they will prescribe me for the low sperm count n volume? If so is there a certain one I should mention to him to try out first?

I can’t forget that just about a month ago he diagnosed me with hydrocelle, while looking that up there has never been a time my testicle has got any bigger. I have had trouble with it for some time now an bout 3 years ago. It is like a sharp pain that starts in abdomen an shoots to the left testicle. The first time it happened 3 years ago it had me on the floor curled in a ball crying like a baby, an here recently it has not been that bad thank god. An the pain seems to occur when I’m doing strainues things. So not sure if it is hydrocelle so getting another oppinoin before any knife is near my sack. Also they have ruled out cancer, it being twisted or what not, an any type of strain or hernia. Any suggestions on medication to help my sperm count, volume, an problems would be helpful, Thanks in advance

Hello squirt,

Terribly sorry to hear about your situation.

I sincerely hope things will get better.

Take care.

P.S: Did you masturbate or had sex before the test?

I have decided whatever I do I will move forward in life

Hey padawan,

Thanks. No I had not ejaculated for 3 days before the test. I’m 27 an have been in relationships that have lasted 7,3 years an during them times had uncountable sex without condoms to try to have a child an can’t forget about the drunken nights with girls I have picked up but thank god nothing ever came with that. Was never really wanting any of them to bare my child, just them drunk nights an having a good feeling I wasn’t able to have kids an going bareback. Them days are over now though, I have been dating a girl for 4 months now an things seem to be going great so far so figured I would get checked an see what could be done when the time comes when we are both ready.

Get a bloodwork done, FSH, LH, test, DHT, E2, progesterone, prolactin, liver and kidney values. I’m surprised any doc would suggested knife without that info, unless there is visible fluid buildup in the scrotum, but with your symptoms it quite possible that it’s some form of hyrocele or hernia, although sperm count can be completely unrelated with it. Anyway - Good luck. :)

Yea I was kinda shocked when he said it as well, he went off an ultrasound pretty much an lets not forget that was the first time I went to this doctor an he told me this with out looking at me. Told me I would have to live with it or have the surgery. But have an app with a doc. In dec to get another opp.

So does anyone know if there is any type of medication for the sperm count/volume the doctor can prescribe? An if so which are best?

24 (million) is low but higher than the count doctors like to see - 20 million or more. Clomiphene citrate (clomid) is sometimes prescribed to increase sperm count but you should definitely not take this drug on your own without working with a doctor.

Take first things first: get the hydrocele checked out; deal with your sperm count after that is resolved, if necessary.

Here’s a little more information for you. Hydroceles do not usually have a negative affect on sperm production, vericoceles do. But you need to have your hydrocele corrected because you get so much pain from it. Vericoceles don’t normally cause a lot of pain.

After you have the hydrocele corrected, wait some time then have another semen analysis done. This time, ask for a hard copy of the results and learn more about what is important in the area of sperm production.

This is very general:

* the concentration of spermatozoa should be at least 20 million per ml.

* the total volume of semen should be at least 2ml.

* the total number of spermatozoa in the ejaculate should be at least 40 million.

* at least 75 per cent of the spermatozoa should be alive (it is normal for up to 25 per cent to be dead).

* at least 30 per cent of the spermatozoa should be of normal shape and form.

* at least 25 per cent of the spermatozoa should be swimming with rapid forward movement.

* at least 50 per cent of the spermatozoa should be swimming forward, even if only sluggishly.

There are a lot of variables in this. Men with lower counts than you reported have fathered babies. Swimming is important. One’s sperm may swim well, but are most oriented in the same direction or are most of them moving erratically, like in circles? How about the “morphology” of your little guys? These are things to learn.

You are young. Learn as much as you can. My bet, you’ll be a daddy someday.

By the way, when you have your next semen analysis, don’t ejaculate for 3 days before. And, the most important shot is your first; this one will contain more sperm than subsequent contractions.

Hey avocet8,

Thanks for the information an giving me more hope then any doctor here has so far. My next app with a doc is not till Dec. An I’m going to wait to see what he says about my condition before going any further with surgery or what not, so once again thanks alot.

There are a lot of OTC vitamins and supplements that can help with fertility.

Vitamin C: take 1000mg/day, preferably as two 500mg morning and evening.
Zinc: take 30-50 mg/day, especially if you don’t eat red meat
Selenium: take 200 mcg/day
Water: drink more plain water
Alcohol and especially marijuana will lower your sperm count, so you may need to cut down on partying.

There are a bunch of other supplements that help but are more expensive. If you do this every day your results will improve dramatically.

I would get the hydrocele taken care of first.
