Vasectomys should be outlawed?

Vasectomys should be outlawed?

I am a middle aged man, as many here know. My wife and I want another child. But, like a dumbass, I got a vasectomy.

No turning back now, right? Wrong, I got a vasectomy reversal, and my left nut rides up under my shaft to a point where my unit doesn’t hang like I’d like it to. After 6 months of pumping away, nothing. I’m not sure the surgery went the way we wanted.

The question is, why have the fucking vasectomy in the first place. If the wife is on birth control, all good.

The problem is mis-information. For some reason, after our last child, my wife got scared of the negative effects of the pill in older women. (I don’t know if she got this from Oprah or what)

Anyway, I didn’t want another kid right away. So, snip, snap, done. Less than a year later, regret. Think about it first fellas. I truly felt like less of a man, subconsciously, rightly or wrongly. Not being potent got to me. What do you guys think?

Paraphrased: It is not the critic who counts: The credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, who, at the best, knows the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.

I think it would bother me as well, and at the very least I’d get some of my sperm frozen just in case I ever wanted another child. Also, birth control can have adverse effects but in my mind at least they usually aren’t that bad and can be worth it for good sex. I’m personally a fan of birth control and I know a lot of women on it (albeit they are on the younger side at 25-30) and none of them have any adverse effects.

“(I don’t know if she got this from Oprah or what)” my guess would have been Dr. Phil ;)

one month in (as of 02/12/09): 8.15" BPEL, 7.4" NBPEL, 5.6"EG, (5"-6.5" varying) FL, 4.75" FG, Height: 6'1", Weight: 190 lbs.

Currently (as of 04/3/09): 8.50" BPEL, 7.6" NBPEL, 5.7"EG, (5.5"-7" varying) FL, 4.75" FG, Height: 6'1", Weight: 175 lbs. (final semester of Computer Science > Gym :( )

Goals (in the next 6 months): 8.60" BPEL, 7.8" NBPEL, 6" EG, 7" FL, 5" FG, (still hopefully 6'1"), Weight: 200 lbs.

I got snipped fairly young (36) after my wife and I had decided that we would not have any more kids.

The doctors were very methodical in stating that the procedure should not be done if there is even a remote chance that you want kids in the future. It was my choice and as such my responsibility.

Laws should not be created strictly to protect dumbasses :) (as per your wording, no offense intended).

The pill is major medication, and there are many significant side effects which will potentially effect a woman.

For a woman to get her tubes clipped / tied is a much more serious surgery with more complications then for the man to have a quick 15 min procedure (if not done in conjunction with a c-section).

I had argued with my wife on the reasons why I shouldn’t get snipped (increased chance of prostate cancer, potential hardware failure, limiting the gene pool as I represented all that was great in the species and was the pinnacle of human evolution :D etc etc etc). She caved and agreed to my flawless logic :)

With the battle won I booked the procedure, and when I told her I booked it and SHE DID NOT BELIEVE ME, lol.

When the day came, I said to her I was going to get snipped and she laughed thinking I was joking, then was shocked and then in awe (remember, I won the battle and to her it was a dead issue).

I drove myself to the appointment, checked in, they shaved my sack, stabbed what seemed a ridiculously long needle into one side of my bag, sliced the one side of the bag open, I felt a pulling as the doctor pulled the vas and cauterized it at both ends (he showed me the 1 cm piece), stitched me back up and did the other side.

Total time = less then 15 min including prep, chit chat and joking around (I mean I should have brought him flowers or chocolates for how delicately he handled me, lol :D )

I got dressed, walked out, drove myself home and slapped a bag of frozen peas on my bag - my wife was very loving and caring (as always).

Being concerned about the very, very (very) remote chance of hardware failure I pulled up my favorite porn site the next day and delicately got to work to check for responsiveness. Everything worked fine. Actually, it worked better then fine, I mean it was like a teenager again - crazy raging hard on that just would not subside. I don’t know if it was psychological or just the bloodletting in the area, but there was a definite improved responsiveness.

I waited another day and did the solo full test drive .. Four times. Everything worked perfectly, I was like a Sunkist orange .. All the juice, none of the seeds :D

I did the procedure on a Friday and was back to work on Monday.

I personally know guys that have milked the vasectomy thing like crazy, (one guy got a new computer, gaming software, off work “sick” for a week, breakfast in bed etc etc etc - he told me he had no post op pain or complications at all and said he was milking it for all he could get.

I definitely don’t regret the choice I made.

“”Laws should not be created strictly to protect dumbasses (as per your wording, no offense intended).”“

Priceless.
(And applicable in so very many situations other than this one.)

I really do agree with your statement. Life is about a series of decisions we all make. (good or bad) I just wanted to see how other people feel about the issue. I don’t think vasectomys should be outlawed. But maybe urologists could explain all sides of the issue.

My wife’s OB said the risks of the pill were minimal. Had we spoken to him BEFORE the vasectomy, it would not have happened. I did not know about the potential of increased risk of prostate cancer either. (are there any articles on this?)

Anyway, we are here, now, with my tubes re-tied. Who knows how it will go.

I’d rather see a guy get snipped than this happening. Birth control can be very dangerous, read on. This was sent to me in an email:

Menstrual Cycle - Very Important - NOT A JOKE

I am sure most of you have a daughter, a granddaughter,a niece, a friend or a friend’s daughter……this might be worth checking out.

Recently this past week, my cousin ****** ****** (name removed for privacy)(age31….new
grad student with a doctoral degree about to start her new career as a
Doctor…) was flown into a nearby hospital, because she passed out.

They found a blood clot in her neck, and immediately took her by
helicopter to the ER to operate. By the time they removed the right half of her skull to relieve the pressure on her brain the clot had spread to her brain causing severe damage. Since last Wednesday night, she was battling. They induced
her into a coma to stop the blood flow.

They operated 3 times. Finally, they said there was nothing left
that they
could do. They found multiple clots in the left side of her brain, the
swelling wouldn’t stop and she was on the life support. She died
at 4:30
yesterday. She leaves behind her husband, a 2 yr old Brandon and a
4 yr old Justin.
The CAUSE of DEATH they found was a birth control she was taking
that
allows you to only have your period 3 X’s a year. They said it
interrupts life’s menstrual cycle, and although it is FDA approved……it
shouldn’t be. So to the women in my address book, I ask you to boycott this product
and deal with your periods once a month, so you can live the rest of
the months that you life has in store for you.

Please send this to every woman you know - you may save omeone’s
life.

Remember you have a cycle for a reason.

FYI: The name of this new birth control is Lybrel. If you go to
Lybrel.com
you will find a least 26 pages of information regarding this drug.
The second
birth control is Seasonique. If you go to Seasonique.com you will
find at
least 43 pages of information regarding this drug. The warning and side effects
regarding both pills are horrible.

Please forward this to as many daughters AND sons, co-workers,
friends and
relatives. Several lives have already been changed.

Sunshine,

I appreciate your input. I do believe that just about everything we do nowadays, has risk. This is in no way discounting the details of the sad story, above. I am just saying, that, had I known a little bit more about ALL sides of the question, we would probably be nursing a baby today. (just a hunch) Did you hear anything about the higher risk of prostate cancer in men who’ve had vasectomy’s?

I’ve always had in my head that instead of getting snipped I would just wear a condom. I’m still young, so who knows what kind of turns my life will take but I’m pretty confident that my outlook on birth control will pretty much stay this way.

After I got divorced I was glad I didn’t get snipped because I was dating younger women who wanted kids, I decided I don’t want anymore kids but I’m glad I still had the choice.

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

Always said no way I’d get a vasectomy and never did. During pregnancy of our last child the wife had a gall bladder attack at the same time. She gave birth then they removed the gall bladder and snipped and singed her tubes.

Thought I would jump in here.

I am going to have a vasectomy done right after our 3rd child is born.

That’s right, 3. I’m done. Even if I divorce my wife, or something else happen to her, I want 0 more kids.

I agree that birth control is a good option for the woman, but it does have side effects. My wife has gone through many, many different types of pills in an attempt to find one that worked. So far she has had a rash, migraines, libido next to nothing, worse cycles, etc.

Originally we had planned for her to get her tubes tied (we were told originally it could be done while she was in the hospital having the baby already). But after learning it would be at her 6 week appointment, or after, before she would have it done, I figured having the vasectomy was the right decision for me.

It’s not a “one size fits all” decision.

Vasectomy increasing the risk of prostate cancer? Not according to these sources

Vasectomy Procedure: Side Effects, Recovery and Effectiveness

Apparently, a study in 1993 indicated that there were links, but this has since been debunked.

BPEL (5") | 13 | 14 | 15 | 16 | 17 | 18 | 19 | *20cm* (8")

"Pertinaciously pursuing a penis of preposterously prodigious proportions." What a mouthful!

Best decision I ever made. My wife has always had trouble with the pill and I just got tired of having to wear condoms. After having 2 kids (and not wanting any more), this was much easier than my wife having her tubes tied. The worst part of the whole procedure, for me, was that the doctor “dry-shaved” my scrotum and I had terrible razor burn.

I understand what you’re saying. I wrote the thread because my experience was one where it was almost a spur of the moment thing. I/we did not really research all of the options, and how we really felt about another child. The vasectomy ended up creating a lot of feelings that my wife and I didn’t know the other was thinking. (not good) Plus, for me, subconsciously, not being “potent” impacted my psyche as a man in a negative way.

I had mine done 30 some years ago after out first child. All during the pregnancy, the doc said “Everything is fine, don’t worry”. After our child was born, the doc said “you were lucky, don’t try it again” and I took that to heart. I have never regretted our decision. Having chosen my career path, I knew I was destined to live a life of financial mediocrity so I never had to worry about having a child that I needed to worry about being able to support.
