5. POP access (you can now use Outlook instead of the web if you want, and keep all your messages on the web, too.)

Hmm, doesn’t seem all that great or revolutionary to me. Who needs a gig of space? Surely those who do are in large corporations and are able and willing to pay for it. I like to keep my inbox clutter free and sort documents into folders manually anyway, so I can easily find mail without a search function (which most email clients have in them anyway). Opera’s email client also has the ability to thread conversations.

Nah, Hotmail’s 250MB of space is more than enough for me! :p

Gmail works for me because I’m way too disorganized to put things in folders. What makes labels neat is the ability to attach multiples labels to an email. Thus, some thing about an internet site on PE could be labeled both “internet” and “PE.” Works well for me.

I also missed the main thing I like about Google — clean interface. Loads in seconds.

The thing I don’t like is that it’s conceivable that years of email could be stored on someone else’s server. Part of Google’s charm is their “don’t be evil” slogan, but the world’s full of companies that started off with good intentions and only became evil as time passed. I know a lot of people say, “I don’t have anything to hide.” Personally, I can’t believe such a person exists, unless they’re completely lacking in inhibitions. Me, I’d really rather a new girlfriend didn’t stumble across letters between me and an old girlfriend. That type of thing. I don’t think I have any real secrets. Collectively the world knows pretty much everything there is to know about me, but there’s no one individual outside of my shrink who does. I’d like to keep it that way.

Jeez… it sounds like somebody just emptied their six-shooter in front of my apartment. I really need to move.
