Cheap and great lube- Xanthan gum!

You will have to make this lube yourself, but it will end up being INCREDIBLY cheap and better than normal lube in my opinion. It includes xanthan gum, which is some kind of thickening powder used in foods and I believe can be found in the ingredients of some lubricants. Optional but suggested is (liquid) glycerin, which will give a better texture to the lube, make the lube last longer without reapplying, and it’s MUCH easier to make the lube without having to stir forever or wait overnight for the chunks to dissolve. If you are making a big batch, you should add some preservative, the two popular ones being Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) or methylparaben. Finally, you should add anywhere between half a cup to 2 or 3 cups of water, depending on how much you want to make.

This is my formula. You can mess around with this, IE some people use Guar gum instead of Xanthan, some people don’t use Glycerin, some decide to put it in the fridge instead of adding the preservatives, ETC. Obviously, this is in proportions- if you make a bigger batch with more water, you will need to use more of the ingredients, and vice versa.

-1/2 teaspoon of xanthan gum
-3 teaspoons of glycerin
-4 drops of GSE
-half a cup (4 ounces) of warm water

To make this, first add the xanthan gum with the glycerin in a bowl and mix it for a minute or so. Then, add the water and the preservative and mix again for 3-4 minutes. You want to store it in some kind of bottle/ squeeze bottle, and you should shake it in it as well. You can mess around with this formula- if you want it to be thicker, add more xanthan gum or less water. If you want it to be more slick, put less xanthan gum or add more water. Using warm water will make the process faster.

If you decide not to use glycerin, it will be a bit harder to make- there will be more clumps and you will need to do more stirring and let it sit overnight for them to disappear. If you just decide to mix the water and xanthan gum, you will need to stir for a long time until there are no more chunks and let it sit over night. If you use hot water, this will go faster. A lot of people add the water and xanthan gum on a pan with low heat and stir it there, which will take less time.

The 3 ingredients are relatively inexpensive and will easily last your months or years. Xanthan gum costs 5-10 dollars and all you need is a couple ounces because so little is used in the recipe. Glycerin is also around the same price, and the preservative should only be a couple dollars. You can find xanthan gum in the baking section of your grocery store- Giant in my area didn’t have it, I had to go to a place called MOM’s organic market to find it. You may have trouble finding it- just look online for grocery stores, especially the healthy/organic ones, and call them to ask so you don’t have to make 5 trips to find it. I found glycerin in the same place- you MAY have some trouble finding this but make some calls to check if they have it. You want a little bit more of glycerin since more is used in the recipe, 6-18 ounces. Again, I found the GSE in the same place. You can find all of these things way cheaper online, especially on amazon, but I didn’t want to wait so I just got them in store.

Let me know what you guys think. By the way, I got most of this information from the fleshlight forums, where they need to use way more lube. Google fleshlight and xanthan gum if you want to read more about it. This lube is great and you guys will love it. I love being able to use as much lube as I want without worrying about how expensive it is. On top of that, I really do think this is better than some of the normal lubes like astroglide and KY. It stays on without getting too dry, and never gives the sticky feeling that some lubes give.

Just a note- some people may be allergic to these ingredients, but you would probably already know because they are in some foods. Also, REMEMBER TO ADD THE PRESERVATIVES if you plan on using a batch for more than 2-3 days. You should add something like 4-6 drops of GSE (make sure its GRAPEFRUIT, not Grape seed extract) for a half cup-cup batch, and more if you make more. You can use less if it causes any irritation, or less if you store it in the fridge, but even then you must add some.
