I’d like to hear people’s experiences about fitting in PE around their job, and how your job impacts on your PE routine. I recently started a new job as a support worker which involves 14 hour shifts, working anywhere from 30 hours a week to 50 hours a week. My work rota is pretty varied; I can work 4 days, then have 2 off, or work 1 day then have 3 off, it varies every month and no week is the same which is a bit of a pain in the ass when it comes to planning a PE routine.

I often wonder if there is a correlation between successful gainers and those who have a pretty flexible work life, ie those working from home, or not working at all.

I’m thinking that if I do PE at least 2 days a week (I’m guaranteed at least 2 days off a week if not more) and then wear an ADS for the days I’m at work then this could lead to some gains, what do you think?

How early do you start your work day?

I wake up early to do mine. Usually up around 5:15, PE for 30 minutes, hit the gym, and then get ready for my work day. In January I’m going to adjust my routine a bit to sleep a bit longer, hit the gym first, and then will have more time to PE a bit later in the morning (shooting to increase my time to 45-60 minutes by then).

Most shifts start at 7.30am, but I’m not gonna be getting up at 5.30am to PE in the morning, let’s just say I’m not a morning person and need my 8 hours sleep otherwise I’m no use to anybody throughout the day haha. There are shifts where I start at 10.30am so I can do my PE in the morning on those days. It’s all about being clever and planning your PE around work I suppose, but I doubt I’d be able to stick to a strict 1 on, 1 off.

I’m gonna purchase a VLC weighted hanger to wear at work so I at least feel like I’m doing something on my rest days.
