Here's a cheap hand scale you can use to see how much tension you're pulling by hand

I just bought one of these. It cost me 3 bucks.

It has a convenient lifting handle that works good for manual stretching with a hanger. If nothing else it will give you some idea how much force you’re pulling with. Unfortunately mine only reads in Kg. 2.2 pounds are in a kilogram roughly.
