Key Differences Between Edging and Masturbation

I want to be absolutely clear on the distinction between these two ideas because edging appears to be nearly universally regarded as positive for gains, but there are endless discussions about whether masturbation hinders gains or not— or in other words, masturbation is at best neutral for growth.

Every description I read about edging, however, seems to sound remarkably similar to masturbating. Some people even say they stay away from edging because it is so pleasurable that they end up simply masturbating. To my understanding, the key difference lies in the intention— edging focuses more on creating a sustained expansion after workout, and using movements (like ballooning) to support that, while masturbating is strictly for pleasure and release. I’ve read here that edging without release might be bad for the prostate though?

Am I missing something here?? I’d really like to start edging after workouts (and off days) to minimize turtling, but I find I do best masturbating a few times a week at most, and this sounds like a pretty similar thing especially if I end up releasing at the end.

The biggest difference is the ejaculation, with edging there is no ejaculation afterwards.

Another key point, the key to edging is staying as close to the point of no return for as long as possible, training your mind and cock to be more in control. It also is the time when your unit is in the best expanded form.

I’ve tried edging, it just makes me feel stopped up. And I seem to have weaker erections when it’s time for sex.

For me, intention yes.

I have a conception of edging as using slower strokes. As in, avoiding completely that “rush to the finish line” kind of jerking even if I would actually ejaculate.

Same here. For me, edging as in; getting close to the point of orgasm and keeping it there, really kills my sexual energy.

In PE techniques I prefer what I call “fluffing” which is getting as hard as possible, but NOT getting anywhere near close to orgasm. Nowhere near the edge. I just get a BIT turned on, enough to get really hard and big, but deliberately stay well away from the “edge”. Then I still have good sexual energy to get properly turned on for sex later.

Thanks for the replies guys. With all the praise edging gets I’m a little shocked at the mixed results everyone seems to have, not to mention unique interpretations of what edging is! I have a feeling this might be one of those things that are fantastic for guys that otherwise would normally masturbate multiple times a day anyways.

It was a guy here that claimed all he did was jelq and edge and his length gains were pretty impressive. Made me want to edge more, but I just don’t find it useful. And I can’t do it without porn.

You can do it without porn if you stopped using it. Edging is quite beneficial.

You are most likely stopping just a second or two later then what would be precise. Also having strong kegels muscles will help you to be more on point to being able to make a good hault to the ejaculation process. Find your comfort zone (as in how far you can go without feeling backed up) and try to stay in that zone as long as possible.

For me personally - edging is literally USELESS thing to do. Due to some skin troubles(acne) I was having problems with finding girlfriend for a long time, so was masturbating MUCH. Even with my penis being uncut I ended up going for 2-3 hours easily with my first girlfriend. Now in long relationships I don’t have trouble about “fast-coming”. So, masturbation made way better impact in my case xDD reducing sensitivity of penis, without reducing EQ
