Being depressed won’t return any skin. All you can do now is work at replacing what was lost.
I suppose I do produce some smegma. The covered area is slightly moist most of the time, but because I no longer have a ridged band the glans is not always covered. Depending on what clothes I wear and how much I move around in them, the area can be wiped dry several times a day. I’m sure I have some smegma producing glands left. They do decrease with age.
The ridged band has an unfortunate name because when an intact foreskin is retracted it’s difficult to tell the ridged band from the folds of the retracted foreskin. One of the major anti-circumcision sites is Circumcision Information and Research Pages (CIRP ). It has a wealth of information on its restoration page, including a special section on the ridged band . The anatomy page also discusses it.
You’re starting out way ahead of most of us who have or are restoring. Feel free to ask questions as you begin your FR journey.
