The idea is to take it slow and easy, especially as you are starting out, for a couple reasons.
First, if you do too much too soon you can severely injure yourself. Spend some time reading the injuries posts while you are working thru the newbie routine, get a little scared of what can happen if you make a mistake and go too far.
A second concern is that doing too much too soon can actually make your dick stronger, and then it gets too strong to grow, you plateau sooner and miss out on gains that you might have had if you had gone slower. At the risk of upsetting some of the veterans here, I personally do not agree with this, at least not completely. I’m more in the camp of get to know your penis and what it takes to get a good stretch, then try to get into a sustained state of moderate fatigue, almost always just a little sore but not injured. Injuries are bad, since they can stop your newbie gains. An injury could stop you from doing your PE exercises, then you heal up tougher than when you started and that plateau you want to avoid kicks in.
Here’s a little of my story. Before I found Thunders Place I tried a pump, and on the first day I got distracted, did too much pressure for too long, and freaked out when I saw what I had done. I had severe fluid buildup, it was totally gross looking, and I thought I had just destroyed my penis. I found Thunders Place desperately searching for remedies. I eventually recovered, and, like you, I started into a hybrid newbie/pumping routine.
Everyone is different, but I enjoyed some very nice newbie gains with a combination of manual stretches and moderate pressure pumping before I plateaued. Since then though it has been very difficult making measurable progress. I don’t regret pumping early on, but I wonder if I might be bigger now if I had just done the standard newbie routine until I stopped gaining with it.
Back to you and your situation. Since you already have been pumping and it is working for you, I personally recommend that you keep going. Don’t stop doing something that is working well. When you plateau you can look into taking a deconditioning break or switching to some other routine.
Good luck!
