Number vs. Time

Number vs. Time

I’ve been working on getting just the right routine for a few months now, since living in a dorm limits my private time. I’m using the newbie routine, basically, except I have a (probably dumb) question about how to go about altering the routine when I feel ready to do more. I suppose it’s really just a question more about PE in general.

Is it better to count your PE routine by number of reps or by time? I.e. “250 jelqs” vs. “15 minutes of jelqs”

Technically, if every jelq is 4 seconds, then it wouldn’t matter. But since it’s difficult for me to have a clock I can watch for every 4 seconds in the shower with me, and it’s awfully boring to be glued to a clock if I’m not in the shower, I can have a difference of several minutes on two workouts of the same routine going by number of jelqs. Maybe I’m just bad at keeping time in my head.

Anyway, I’m inclined to think time is more important, but my worry is that if I’m just going by time, I’m lacking structure that I need to be disciplined. I don’t want to be doing lazy jelqs until time is up, I’d rather focus on each one. On the other hand, it’s easier to schedule a time block out of my day to commit to PE than to just be done when I’ve done enough.

Of course, either of these problems are my personal problems that I can work out with some discipline, but the question remains: time or number?

Do whatever works for you. When I would count I would lose count and so I just watch a clock.

If you want to focus on each one, then focus on each one. I’m sure sometimes I do lazy jelqs but it’s still better than not doing anything.

They key to PE is consistency.

Then 01/15/08 EBPL: 6.25 EG 5.10 Now 10/05/09 EBPL 7.75 EG 5.25 Girth work for 103 days.

New Short Term Goal: EBPL 8.0 EG 5.5 Lifetime goal 9x6.5 PE log and journal

Well it’s fairly easy to time yourself without a clock Look at a clock (with a seconds hand and count 1 little second, 2 little seconds. 3 little seconds.

That will give you about 1 second between each count and you can see how fast you need to go to time it accuratelyy enough to carry on through the exercise.,

You must remember that no super precisionis required in doing the exercises. The important thing to do is to do them, and fit them in as best as you can with the time available for you

Make out a time map for each day showing how much time you have available, and then fit your exercises to it. If you do more one day than the next it’s no big deal. just try to average it out.

Remember the important thing is to do the exercises when you can but Be Consistent.
