Pumping - Am I expecting too much too soon?

Pumping - Am I expecting too much too soon?

Newbie to pumping here. At my age, 60+, I don’t really have any interest in PE other than that aspect that improves ED. I must say I’m pretty flabbergasted by the evident impracticality of using a penis pump for routine ED issues. Most of the info on the internet treats penis pumps as something that’s easy and safe to use, and extremely effective as an alternate to pills or other methods for ED. But after reading here, (and this is a good thing), and my own personal experience, it seems to me that pumps aren’t really a simple answer to ED at all.

I’ve also learned that with my first trial with a pump. Bought a LeLuv off Ebay, 2.25” x 9” their standard beginner setup. No pressure gauge. Tried it a couple days and surprised couldn’t get an erection using it. Yes, it inflated somewhat, but nothing near the easy rock hard erection I expected, having read up off the net. This was before I visited here. After reading here, I did think it was a good idea to get a pump with a gauge, and got one at Harbor Freight. Incredibly, I did this, BEFORE I read here the HF pump is the go-to pump. LOL I thought I was being clever using some of my boyhood gearhead knowledge. No wonder the girl at the counter gave me a weird look or maybe I was imagining that? Who knows.

Anyhow - having a gauge seemed prudent and knowing I had not achieved an erection in the pump I wanted to know the pressure I was pumping to achieve that non erection. Hoping I was just being too conservative. I hooked everything up and found that even at 5mm, no erection. A plumpness, definitely, a pretty larger softie. Probably ~65%

Not sure where I go from here, definitely don’t want to jack the pressure up. Thinking maybe my dick just isn’t used to vacuuming and maybe continued use at 3-5mm will slowly gain better results? With the gauge I was doing approx. 5-10 min at 3-5mm. For 3 cycles. Not sure how high I went with the gauge-less setup, but no injuries, etc. Just a little sore.

I will also add I have no privacy to do this and forced to do it in a fairly inhospitable area, it’s stark and kinda cold, really. Maybe that is a problem? I have also read some say watch porn, I swore off porn years ago….but I was always under the impression (not here but other places) the pump would do all the work. ?

My ED is age related far as I can guess. I’m a fitness nut, thin, great health, non smoker, light drinker, etc. Etc. Etc. C and V work well for me, but always looking for another angle of course to help my ED. And thought pumps could help me get routine maintenance erections without using C, V, or porn. (In between having sex, when I do use C or V)

Haven’t done intensive measurements because not really into the PE thing, but cursory measurements BPEL is approx. 6.75- 7” and MSG approx. 5.75-6” Quite possibly maybe a smaller cylinder 2.0” could improve things?

If any of the experts have comments that would be welcome. I have read the 101 and the ED threads in their entirety. Lotta valuable info here and I appreciate sharing the experience and knowledge!

I have no experience with ED fortunately to date. But I have had ED brought on by over training. I have found a few exercises that helped me from that point. I used clamping and edging to regain a good erection. I use cockrings constantly. Some guys swear hanging helps bloodflow. I hope this helps.

Most men at 60 don’t really have ED. When was the last time you had a physical and did you discuss this at all with your doctor?

It could be a factor only if you have got some clinical conditions. Number one culprit is a really bad diabetes.

In addition, have you had some steroid tests? Testosterone specifically?

Do you take medications? Some meds have an effect with erection

You’re not alone; that’s how a lot of members wound up here.

Unfortunately Thunder’s doesn’t have a specific ED subforum, but some of the threads concerning it are in “Men’s Sexual Health”.

Andy, been there and done that. ED from prostate cancer 2013. Urologist started me on a pump which I tried but just didn’t get the response that I thought I should have, and like you I found Thunders, thank God. Reading here gave me the knowledge to start a ed program that I hoped would help. The program I started was to lengthen my penis. I started with jelking and stretching, something I still do today. I have been on this routine for four years and I have no ed problems. My urologist said it was amazing and keep up with what I was doing. If you decide to go this route, please be careful of the jelqs and go slow. Work yourself up a routine. I do 20 minutes jelqs, 20 minutes stretching and finish with 10 minutes edging five time a week. I am 72 years old and wished I had found about this earlier in life. Good Luck.

First, my vacuum gauge is calibrated in inches of Hg so I do not know the mm equivalent.

I have suffered with slowly increasing diabetes induced ED for 25 years which now probably includes a venous leak. Accordingly, I have been pumping for many years. In the beginning, I found that a tightcock ring was all that was necessary to help generate and maintain an erection. After a few years,I found that I needed
to first pump for ten minutes at 5 hg and then apply the cock ring to maintain the erection. When that procedure started to fail, I moved on to Viagra followed by Trimix injections. Now, I need to use a medical grade VED (special penis pump that allows you to easily slide a tight constriction band off the end of the cylinder on to the base of a pumped erection to maintain the erection. Problem now is the tight constriction band starts to reduce sensitivity after 10 minutes and needs to be removed after 30 minutes.

Now back up a bit to the earlier days. You can also use your pump to do pulse pumping - pump up to 5 inhg and hold for a minute or two then reduce the vacuum to 2 hg and hold for 30 seconds and repeat 4 or 5 times. This mimics the process your dick goes through every night during REM sleep that helps keep your dick heathy and improves Erection quality and reduces ED.

Start 11/09 BPEL: 5.5", EG: 4.4"

Current. BPEL: 6:4", EG: 5.5"

30 inHg = 760 mmHg

5 = 127

Initial: 7” BPEL; 6” NBPEL; 5.25” - 5.5” MEG

Current: 7-7/8” BPEL; 7-3/8” NBPEL; 8.5” BPFSL; 6.5” MEG; 6”x5” Flaccid.

Goal: Improved/consistent EQ while managing ED. Secondary: maintain current stats.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t have any commonly diagnosed health problems. I’m on no meds. Total T is normal, free T on the low side, but within “normal” parameters according to Doc, and what I’ve researched. No diabetes or anything serious like that. Doc just suggested V or C. I could go to one of those T clinics and get T shots but not ready to go there. Yet. It’s really puzzling though.

And my bad about the units, I was pumping at 3-5 in Hg, not mm. Duh. Pretty much what’s recommended here. Glad I found this place before I did anything stupid like exploding my dick by indiscriminately over pumping.

And from my reading, and talking to the Doc (and guys on other forums) I’m under the impression that ED to some extent is fairly common by age 60. Maybe not among the PE crowd though, so maybe I’m missing the boat this whole time.

About the jelqing, something to think about. Maybe that’s something I’ll experiment with also. More power to you at 72! Sheesh, makes me both envious and inspired!

I think my plan of action is to continue at 3-5 in Hg, x 5 minutes, several times per session, every other day or so. And hope my member becomes acclimated and responds to the pump exercises although I’m curious as to how it can defy physics like this.

Mine does that too. Sometimes I’ll go in hard and come out soft. [shrug] You pump with what you have.

I disagree with the age bit. Even young guys experience ED.

You’ll also want to look into getting a re-sized cylinder.

I’m not a PE veteran (yet), but looking at your posts I’m finding you a little too conservative about exercises, PE has come this far with brave people trying out scary methods, routines, and exercises back then they were tried, but today are the basis of a good routine (example: clamp).

Don’t hold back, try jelq, go a little further in pump pressure (many experienced users go further and so many others don’t even have a meter on their pumps) don’t be afraid to exercise DAILY. I strongly recommend the newbie routine, consider psychological counseling, check your social, personal, romantic and professional life and if something is out of adjustment, find out what excites you and practice KGEL. Having a conditioned penis can help you in some way, so try PE! You have nothing to lose.

I’ve been doing this for almost 2 years, I improved my routine gradually, and coincidentally today while having sex with my wife in the morning I noticed how much my penis has changed, it’s bigger, thicker and with a great erection… my wife is a tall and is already bothering with my size. PE definitely works and is different for everyone, so experiment, try, all based on knowledge and care. And be patient, some things take time. Here at Thunders you will find a lot that can help you, I learned a lot here and I learn something new every day through user experiences.

I just turned 60, am in good health and am dealing with ED myself. Just started treating about 30 days ago.

I posted over in progress reports but will sub to this thread.
