Setting goals over time: helping or hindering?

Setting goals over time: helping or hindering?

Gentlemen

I am reading a lot of posts about “I set my goal to be xx by yy at latest for 1st of zz” (introduce random inch numbers and months).
I am a little bit suspicious if this is really helpful.
I know a lot of people in here come from intense sports and bodybuilding activities where setting goals is a key to tell yourself to better start moving your ass.
I did it myself and still do, but only when it comes to sports.

But is PE really comparable to sports?

And then I am not sure if it is beneficial to have a goal and not to reach it.
I mean, what if you set yourself a (non public) goal which is too ambitious?
No feedback from vets because you never told it, just some numbers in your head or in your PE logbook.
How will you feel if you can’t achieve them? Better? Or frustrated?
And does it help in the eternal quest for the optimal personal routine?

I mean: does my dick listen to my brain? Does he read Thundersplace?
Ok, he may point sometimes towards the computer screen, but I doubt he knows how to read :-)

I have only one objective in PE: to find my individual growth zone and to stay tuned in it.
No inches per time goal, just find the zone and stay in.

What do you think, am I a non-focused or lazy guy or do I even put my progress at risk?
What are your reasons for settings (or not setting) gain versus time objectives?
Do we really train better if we have an objective set?

As long as you’re motivated to do the exercises consistently, it doesn’t matter. I estimate a very small percentage of us here are actually doing PE for the pure pleasure of PE. Sure it’s a little fun to pull on my dick, but not so much fun that I would do it for an hour or more every day. No, almost all of us are doing it for the end result: getting a bigger penis and having better sex. Whether we have a specific size in mind or just “bigger”, the actions to get there are the same: do PE consistently for a long time. People with specific size goals might be more likely to target length or girth exclusively. And people who just want “bigger” might be more likely to continue on with PE over the longer term since they don’t necessarily have a stopping point in mind, either in time or size.

Before 5.5" x 4.1" ///////// Now 7.4" x 4.9"

I think that size goals can be counter productive if it means risking injury, and if we knew that doing x for y period would result in z growth more people would get results.

Because of the elusive nature of PE one has to adopt a more Zen-like approach to our workouts and be disciplined and patient.

I’m all for setting small attainable goals and I agree that setting a time for them is setting yourself up for failure.

Start: (Aug 2001): 6 1/2 bpel x 4 7/8 mseg

Current: (6/24/14): 7 3/4 bpel (7 nbp) x 5 5/8 mseg. BEG 6 1/4. BPFSL 8 1/8.

Goals: First: 7 1/2 bpel x 5 1/2 mseg ACHIEVED! Current Goal: 7 nbp x 5 3/4 mseg (almost there!)

I think setting a goal in terms of size could be useful but I would leave the time parameter out of it. Your growth zone concept sounds a lot more healthy.

I set an overall goal with no time limit because for me it is about maximizing my growth potential. Pretty much I’m in line with your growth zone comment. I see so many newbies thinking this is a race to see how intense they can make their routine to achieve maximum growth. What they don’t realize, is that they are running the risk of injury or slowing down their maximum growth potential.

Sometimes I feel like a broken record replying to newbies and begin to stereotype them as injury prone just by the way they post.

Pre PE: 5/8/04 BPEL 6.25" EG 5"

Goal: BPEL 7.5" EG 5.5"

Routine, Pics

I think for some newbies At least one injury is necessary to show them how serious PE is.

After they hopefully they can start listening to veteran advice.

Maybe?

I think you are very focused and have a better chance of gaining with the mentality you described.

Having a size goal is fine but adding a time constraint is asking for problems with anxiety, disappointment and injury. PE varies so much from person to person there is no reliable way to put a time frame to a certain size.

Personally, I never set a size goal or deadline and feel that was the right choice. My success is measured by gains, any gain, even the smallest of gain is a success and huge motivation to continue.

A deadline diminishes the true value of your gains.

I think goals are helpful but the time aspect can also hinder you, just like everyone else has said. But it is nice to say I want to be size AxB and eventually see that readout on the ruler. Also without goals I don’t think you would truly appreciate the size you have gained. I very often look back at my starting measurements to reassure myself of the gains I have made and how substantial they are. All I know is my goal is to eventually be at least 8x6 it doesn’t matter if I reach that size in a month or in three years as long as I get there. Slow and steady wins the race.

I think setting a goal also gives you better visualization to work with, if you can imagine your cock the exact dimensions you want it to be, and visualize that during your routines, I think that also will contribute to gains instead of just chasing a “bigger” size. Although my goal is 8x6 I often visualize having something like 10x8 just for fun :-)

Also A-unit has an excellent point about newbies and injuries, wasn’t until I got a pretty serious thrombosis and horrible EQ that I really stepped back and analyzed what I was doing and what I needed to do.

I didn’t set any goals when I first started out because I didn’t know what PE was capable of or what my dick would do.

Once I began to gain I became excited about the thought of getting to 8x6 one day.

The 8x6 goal doesn’t make me do anything differently because I’m fully aware of the fact that doing too much makes your dick stronger, not longer.

And of course finding what is too much and what is just right is the key to successful PE and everyone is different, so don’t try to exactly copy my workouts or anyone else’s thinking that that is the key to growth.

Most of my first two years here was finding ways to do PE wrong for me.

This is getting really interesting.

Thank you to all the participants until now!
