Spectra S2 Pump Project

Hi all, seeing a few threads on breast pump conversions and using. Looking at picking up an S2 clinical grade pump. Just need inline Gauge and a bit of jiggery pokery for cylinder connection. What I don’t have is any experience on the ability of altering the cycles so I think for Spectre is between 38-70 per min - this is the suck phase. Ideally would like to be able to adapt less than the standard 38. Is it possible ? Any hacks, tips before I jump in with my project ?

First phase done, purchased S2. Straight forward connection into existing tubing to my cylinder. Turn on.. Well well works. Ok not like static pump and hold, if you hold the cylinder against the public bone, seems to struggle. Cranked up the level to max L12 apparently 300 mm-Hg so about 11Hg. Hmm getting something but no where near 11.

I noticed the rubber diaphragm which simulates the sucking motion, popped a hole in it. Helped a bit, the. Took it out still not much difference.

Ran for about 10 mins oddly still got good girth, length too early to tell in my 2 X 9. But no donuts on the circumcision lines, just fuller no damage.

Ok, another thing to note I don’t have a release valve other then turning the cylinder connection open. Small things.

So all in all I think it’s a doer.. Anyone played with breast pumps .must be missing something as unread somewhere level 6 was pretty strong almost painful. Not getting that by any means.

I did notice on the bottles for the breast pump there’s a small release hole, obviously. Ongoing release.

Need to think what’s happening and the circuit.. Then get a gauge to see if there is any changes.

Phase two courtesy of Boogie Man69 some earlier posts. Not sure if he’s still around but appreciate the info and welcome some more tips. So all works connected up both connections into one. One way valve to suck air in, the other pressure release. It’s better than the first phase, 15 mins pump, no scar issues, blisters or bruising. Actual has symmetry .girth going well, need my length see how we go over next few months.

As you have discovered about breast pumps:
they are suck and release;
they cycle quick.

The 1-way “check valve” in the tubing can stop the release of vacuum. However, the pump will not know how much vacuum is in the cylinder - so the pump will keep pumping and the vacuum will continue to increase. This could lead to too much vacuum.

The slowest cycle I have seen is about 20/min or 3 second cycle. The cycle is controlled by either turning the pump on/off or more likely a small electric valve driven by a timing circuit.

Ideally, what are you trying to accomplish? I will try to help as much as I can.

Just Got My Spectre S1 And Would Say I Am Getting Good Pressure, Above 5-6hg And Plenty For Pumping Purposes!

Are you using a check valve? Mine would only pull about 3" without one. It finally wore out, but I haven’t used the replacement yet, other than to make sure it functioned. I can’t complain; logged over a thousand hours with it.
