Just like any form of exercise, failure to warm up adequately can result in injury. In the case of PE the routine also becomes less effective if you fail to warm up correctly. If you are doing “stealth” PE and don’t have the opportunity to use a rice sock or other warming device, my advice is to incorporate your stretches into your warm-up routine by starting them off much slower and lighter. Using the shower to warm up is ok, but not necessarily adequate. For me personally anything less than a 10 minute wrap with a rice sock and I might as well not PE, for others that’s not necessarily the case.
