There’s two Irish curses…..but you only got one of them LOL ;)

Quit? I’m only just beginning…. I’ve only tried about half a dozen of the 2600 recipes in twat’s bartending blackbook :D

I swear, once I try them all, just a few more years of drinking on top of that, and I’ll slow down, a little…

Are you Irish as well Horse? My, my, we number millions, to be sure, to be sure!

Ulcaster, I haven’t quite got that yet, but I am working on it. It is probably so obvious that Horse will get it straight away, but I just ain’t getting it at all. Maybe after a few beverages.

BTW every time I see your screen name, I think sub-consciously to myself, there’s UlsterDropout. I misread it the very first time I saw it, and you have been UlsterDropout, to me, ever since. It could actually be quite a good one for me to use. I say, a new name, a new avatar, a new person, hmmm! Thanks. ;)

Both problems can be corrected, but I don’t know which is easier. Half Irish here, with a hint of Cherokee from several generations back. Fire water is good stuff. ;)

I’m 46 and have 1 or 2 drinks most nights, usually red wine. When I was 18-20 I drank pretty heavily, probably for escape. I was not a happy guy in those days and was probably headed for trouble. Then I met the future Mrs RBM and gave up alcohol for probably 15 years and didn’t miss it. Later, when I started seeing all of information on the health benefits of having a glass or two nightly I took it back up. That’s been probably 10 years or so.

Friday’s tend to be wine & pizza night around here. One bottle split between the two of us is just about perfect for relaxing her but not “over-relaxing” me. :)

Here’s to the guy who invented the 750ml bottle! <clink!>

Why? I realized I had a problem.

Mature? Don’t bet on it.

You younger guys, watch out, the shit may creep up on you.

I will be 46 at the beginning of next month. I think I have a problem. I love to drink wine especially dry crisp ones. 5 to 10 glasses a day. It’s less if I have red‚ but I dont enjoy the red as much. I am solidly built at 215 lbs. I start “relaxing” around 2-3 pm. I rarely get “drunk” but enjoy the mild buzz throughout the evening. It calms me. No problems getting it up when I want or need to. I never get obnoxious. Wifey enjoys wine also but limits herself to a couple. I can’t. Am I slowly killing myself? It’s a damned expensive habit!

I quit 11 1/2 years ago. A typical night of drinking consisted of a fifth of bourbon, three six-packs of beer (pretty much a chaser for the bourbon) and shots of Sambuca (chilled, of course) or Tequila. Being that I’m 5’3”, 120 lbs, that’s a shitload of booze. Pretty much did that through the ’80s. I have to read books to find out what happened in the ’80s.

And I thought I should be dead. You were embalmed.

I turned 50 today, (thank you thunders for the nice email by the way) After I post this I’m going to the garage fridge and pull me out a cold one. I got a six pack for New Years and I have three left. A cold beer once in a great while for me. Just don’t like the way alcohol treats me anymore. Cheers!

Man Who Kegels,

Happy Birthday, you son of a gun!!! Don’t let them tell you, you are “over the hill.”

Have a half of one for me!! :D

JGMAN,

120 pounds soaking wet!! Wow!! When you get that big dick, it’ll look even bigger on a small frame like yours. It’s a great feeling to be rid of that shit, isn’t it?

gprent101,

I think I was most of the time. The scary part was when I got my DWI. Here is NJ, you have to go to classes after a DWI. There’s an initial class of like two days and then an advanced. They called me in after the initial class was over and wanted to put me in the advanced. According to the Police report, I had blown a .28 on the BAC. The report also stated that I was fully coherent and cooperative with the Police Officers. The counselor felt with a BAC of that level that I shouldn’t have even been breathing, let alone being even remotely coherent.

Horse,

Yeah, I’m looking forward to that. I figure I could get a second job as a tripod.

And, yes, it’s good to be sober today. Can’t worry about yesterday and don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but I choose not to drink today.

So when does alchohol become a problem? How do you tell?

Is it too much when you have a certain number of drinks every week, or is it just the level/frequency of drunkeness you encounter?
Is it only a problem when it effects your job, family, health? How much is too much?

I am young and full of questions to ask those who have experienced the highs and lows.

I am one of the dumb drinkers, or stubborn, or just too much in the spell to quit sooner. It was a temptress I couldn’t resist. Even when I knew that when I began a binge, it would end with a four day hangover and my head in the toilet, it wouldn’t stop me from taking that first drink.

I got divorced twice, lost my job of 18 years and turned my family against me. My blood pressure was out of control. Lucky for me I was never in a car crash or arrested.

I just finally got sick and tired of the stuff controlling and ruining my life. I’ve quit many times, and on each return visit it just kept getting worse and worse. Got a nice sober run going now though and more often then not have days when I don’t even think about the stuff. Those days are the best.

So, if you think the stuff is starting to get the better of you, there is no need to take it to my level at the bottom of the barrel. Sometimes hitting the bottom is what it takes, but I just kept bouncing. I drank to get drunk, so if that is happening, evaluate if it is really worth it.
