The primary goal of PE should be to make your penis as healthy as possible in both form and function. If you do that, increased size will follow.

As for sharing PE with a son I think it can be shared but in a different context. I think the jelq can be explained as an exercise for men to keep the ding-dong healthy & strong for a long life. One of the first things anyone experiences when embarking on a PE regimen for the first time is the improvement in EQ and general ding-dong health so very basic PE doesn’t have to considered “enlargement” as much as “exercises” or “enhancement” of genital health which it is.

Also as with any exercise regimen a son should be coached to take prudent care to avoid injury.

With all of this I think there should be NO doing any PE in the presence of each other, that would just be wholly inappropriate.
