10 minutes to edit post?

10 minutes to edit post?

Er, Thunder…. I luv ya and all, but what the hell is -that- about? I log in about once a day, and it takes me at -least- 20 minutes to READ all the posts. So, if I reply to one, then move on and see another post that corrects me or influences me to change my post, I can’t go back to edit it. And I’m -not- going to read the board twice just because I feel like posting sometimes.

I can see a time limit, but.. 10 minutes? Where’d you go without your helmet? *L*

I’m not sure, but I suspect that the time limit has something to do with the capacity of the website. I don’t necessarily like it either, but I work with it. The other day I had to compose a rather long post in MS Word and then copy and paste it in order to comply with the time limitation.

Hey Thunder,

There is one thing that really bugs me, though. That is the timing out when reading or posting. I try to use the Back button and always get a time expired message. I then have to click the “Thunder’s Place” button and then click on the forum I want again. Its a little annoying. Does it have to be that way? Maybe it’s related to the time aspect as we just discussed. In any case, I’d like to hear your ideas.

Thanks

Time out?

Never had that problem after reading. Of course, after posting you go back to the thread and the back button is then not ‘available’, and you have to click on the forum or TP button.

As to edit times, this is basically to make guys think about what they write, make them aware that words have consequences; 10 mins is plenty of time to edit any mistakes or errors. Also, if editting was permitted longer, editted posts can then make threads very confusing and lacking in continuity, which is the main reason for the time limit.

Jabari, should you feel a post needs deleting or altering after that time is lapsed, you can either repost or PM a mod.

I’m assuming you mean the “Back” button on your web browser. If you’ve been on the same page for a while you will get that message if you use the back button. My suggestion is to use the links at the top of the page to navigate back to the forum you’re reading or the “next thread” and “previous thread” links to move back and forth.

Time out problems.

Check your browsers and IPS software for timers and disable them. The cookie timer is set for 30 minutes and all it does is make all of the unread posts change to “read” after the 30 minutes of inactivity.

Thanks for the advice, Guiri. The 10-minute thing isn’t a deal-breaker for me, but I would rather have more time. Anyhow, I can live with it. I just figured to add my $0.02, since the only thing better than finding a great online forum, is helping to make it better! ;)

Hey Jabari,

I am trying to figure out a “fix” to the problem. I know it is a pain in the ass to not be able to go back and edit spelling mistakes and typos, but until it can be worked out this limit will have to stay in place.
