Alcohol effects

Abstract:

The aim of this work was to study the effect of the prenylflavonoids xanthohumol, isoxanthohumol, and 8-prenylnaringenin on the activity and expression of the enzyme aromatase (estrogen synthase). The effect of different kinds of beer containing these prenylflavonoids was also tested. Aromatase activity was determined by measuring the release of tritiated water during the conversion of [3H]androstenedione to estrone. Aromatase expression was determined by RT-PCR. This assay was carried out in choriocarcinoma-derived JAR cells. The tested prenylflavonoids were able to inhibit estrogen formation, and their IC50 values were determined, although no effect on aromatase expression was found. Lager beer, alcohol-free beer, stout beer, and xanthohumol-rich stout beer (200 L/mL) significantly decreased aromatase activity. In conclusion, prenylflavonoids are able to modulate aromatase activity, decreasing estrogen synthesis, with relevance for the prevention and treatment of estrogen-dependent disorders such as breast cancer.

I tried to get the link up but it did not come up.
Dark beers and Ales may actually be healthier than beers of a lighter color. It is the revesitol, (I think that is what it is called) a chemical in red whine that blocks aramotase. Dark beers may have this ability because they have more flavanoids.

So drink your Wicked Ale! Cheers brother!

Speak softly carry a big dick, I'm mean stick!

I don’t believe it is the ingredients used to make beer that causes the problem.

Alcohol impairs the function of the liver. One of the functions of the liver in the male body is to de-activate excess estrogen. The more you drink, the more you mess up your livers ability to do its job.

I’d rather have testosterone, than beer.

This is from memory…I don’t have the references.

Yeah it came down to that decision with me it was either getting rid of ED or Beer. So I chose So I chose not to drink beer or alcohol. The last time I drank was at Chistmas time. I had Petit Syrah that me and brother brewed up in his illegal wine making room. Great wine though.

Beer isn’t distilled. (unless it’s non-alcoholic beer, in which case it is distilled but only to remove the alcohol and leave the remaining constituents)

I agree. those weren’t my words, they were a quote from the link I provided (which was a joke anyway).

They could have said:

Of course! Just being a nit picking prick my good sir! Carry on :)

Miniscule amouts of estrogen produced from alcohol consumption don’t mean shit compared to the effects from too much drinking.

mravg, that link was hilarious :)

I also find that a few drinks usually gives me a wicked flaccid and sometimes even an uncontrollable semi-erection without any “stimulation” (e.g., pretty women) present.

KP, I think it’s legal to make wine; it’s only illegal to distil alcohol, whisky or other spirits, or to have a still.
At least that’s the story here. Of course you can’t sell it without registering as a manufacturer and paying the excise.

Exactly - home brewing of any kind of alcoholic beverage is perfectly legal in almost every country I’m aware of. That is, for personal consumption. If you want to sell it then there’s a whole bunch of legal mumbo jumbo hoops to jump through.

The thing that is illegal in most countries (except New Zealand!) is the equipment involved and process of distillation. In Australia there is something of a legal loophole because the law doesn’t somehow apply to devices with a less than 5 Litre boiler capacity. But with a thing that size you’ll be lucky to produce a bottle of vodka in a day.

I could be mistaken - but the final product isn’t actually illegal itself, but is illegal to possess? But that’s the kind of thing you wouldn’t worry about if you’re at that stage already! :)
