I’ve been clamping for somewhere around 6 months now with either a 2on/1off or 3on/1off standard week always with three 10 minute sets.
I use two clamps for every workout but alternate the usage of the second clamp every workout. That is, I clamp with one clamp at the base on day 1 and clamp with two clamps at the base on day 2.
On the days where I use a single clamp at the base, I also use a second clamp at 1/4 from the base during the first 10min set, 1/2 from the base during the second 10min set and 3/4 from the base during the final 10min set.
On the days where I use two clamps at the base, I aim to maintain a maximum reasonable pressure for all 10 minutes of the second and third sets. I also use two clamps during the first set, but I maintain pressure at a much lower level in preparation for the second and third sets. I may also add some light jelqing while clamped during the first set, but certainly not during the second and third.

I assume you’re basing your logic on the prevailing theory in this forum that the shaft location of the clamp (generally the base) is the location of greatest clamping gains. This theory has held true in my own experiences.
I’ve attempted to “just” use a single clamp at various spots above the base without having a clamp at the base also. I personally think it’s pretty futile. It’s extremely difficult for me to engorge the upper portion of my shaft with a single clamp halfway up the shaft. That being said, I think it is useful to add a second clamp at various positions on the shaft. The extent to which this variably positioned second clamp has affected localized girth gains along my shaft is unknown to me. I do believe that it has been beneficial, but PE is such an inexact science that I can’t say with any certainty that my mid-shaft girth gains would be less if I didn’t use a second (non-base) clamp on alternating clamping days.
When you feel that you have **conditioned yourself properly**, try experimenting with varying the placement of an additional clamp or add light 1-minute thumb and index finger squeezes to simulate the addition of a second clamp just to see if it works for you.
Clamp safe above and beyond all else. I know from experience and discoloration that my mental limit can far exceed the physical limit of my penis. Be sure to pay attention and be on the lookout for signs of damage. If you’re confident in your ability to do this, decide what you think would work best and give it a whirl. Just be sure to report back to us with your findings!
Best of luck,
