How many cells in CC

Something I’ve always wondered, does anyone know roughly how many cells can be found in ones CC?

I’m just trying to get a mental image of what happens when jelqing etc. Anyone have any diagrams to do with the way CC cells are connected or maybe articles on how blood is transported through each cell?

I’m sure you don’t mean cells, as in individual cells that make up the tissues. You probably mean sinusoids. Those little pockets of empty space waiting to be filled with blood. There are two different images that can be found of the penis. The cross-section view (like this, and this, and this, and this (histology specimen), and this (cadaver penis)) and the sagittal section view (like this, and this, and this). The two methods of looking at the inner structure of the corpora cavernosa seem at odds with each other.

The cross section views show small web-like strands filling the inner area of each CC. The sagittal section view show columns of apparently (or seemingly) solid tissue separating the CC into chambers. In his thread on a web site featuring MRI images of the penis (here), Modestoman discusses these columns. Obviously they do not separate the penis into chambers or jelqing would not work. I have not had an anatomy class that included dissection of cadavers, so I’ve never seen a real sagittal section of the penis. Since most artists draw it that way, the structures must exist, but I suspect they may be near or part of the septum that separates the two CC from each other. Within the body of each CC the sinusoids are open to each other and allow the blood to flow (or be moved by jelqing) without restriction.

I can’t answer your question except to say, thousands? Study the images and see if they help you visualize what’s happening when you do your exercises.

Something just occurred to me. Maybe this is what you’re already saying. Could the “columns” we’re referring to actually just be the way the septum looks in a sagittal view? Somehow, I’ve been thinking the columns are part of the CCs. But this isn’t what a true sagittal drawing would show. The view would be right through the center of the septum. I’ve read that the septum is imperfect and incomplete. Perhaps what we’re seeing is that it’s not a continuous band of tissue spanning the length of the penis, but rather a series of “ribs” crossing from the dorsal to the ventral side of the penis at regular intervals.

The things I’ve read say the septum is incomplete at the distal end, but essentially complete from the point where the crura join to about 2/3 the distance of the penis. I’ve also read somewhere about the tunica having strands or folds that project into the CC or something like that. Can’t remember where I saw that right now.
